Fusion power is the pinnacle of energy generation in The Riftbreaker, providing a massive 3,500 energy per second while also producing plasma—a secondary resource essential for late-game defenses. This step-by-step guide walks you through unlocking, building, and integrating fusion power into your base, including how to manage supercharged plasma and install shield generators. Whether you’re surviving on brutal difficulty or chasing 2x, 3x, or higher multipliers, this is the system that sets you up for long-term dominance.

1. Research Prerequisites To access fusion power, your HQ must be upgraded to Level 2 first. Once you’ve done that, follow this research path:

  • Unlock Liquid Resources Transport via your communication hubs.
  • Research Fusion Power, which becomes available afterward.
  • Upgrade HQ to Level 3, as building the fusion reactor requires it.
  • Research Shields, followed by Shield Generator for Buildings to make use of the plasma your fusion plants will produce.

Note: Upgrading HQ triggers a major wave after each upgrade, especially to Level 3—be prepared.

2. The Problem With Plasma Backlog Fusion reactors generate plasma as a byproduct. If this plasma isn’t routed out, the plant will clog and cease functioning. While this might be fixed in future updates, at the time of writing, plasma buildup will stop power production. To prevent this, set up a complete plasma-handling system alongside your power plant.

3. Space Planning Fusion power systems are large and require space—essentially the whole screen of your current view. Clear trees and debris in advance, and make sure your layout allows for future routing to shield generators or plasma converters.

4. Building the Infrastructure Here’s the full infrastructure setup:

  • Step 1: Super Coolant Refineries – Build two Super Coolant buildings, which are enough to feed one Fusion Power Plant. Each produces 25 super coolant per second.
  • Step 2: Fusion Power Plant – Place your Fusion Power Plant. It takes about 2 minutes to construct.
  • Step 3: Plasma Routing – The plant outputs 200 plasma per second, so build four Plasma Converters, each of which consumes 50 plasma per second. This maintains flow and prevents clogging.
  • Step 4: Storage and Redundancy – Insert liquid storage tanks between components to ensure buffer capacity in case of delays or flow issues. It’s also a failsafe during power surges.
  • Step 5: Shield Integration – Attach shield generators using pipes from your plasma converter network. Shield generators consume 5 supercharged plasma per second, so from a single fusion plant, you can run up to 40 shield generators simultaneously. That’s more than enough for any main base.

5. Powering and Activating Once coolant is flowing and fusion is online, watch for a dramatic spike in power production—expect to hit 4,200+ energy per second per plant. You now have a closed-loop system: coolant feeds the reactor, the reactor creates energy and plasma, plasma is converted and routed to shield buildings, and shields reinforce your base structures, including walls, turrets, and healing structures.

6. Best Practices

  • Use multiple fusion reactors in high-traffic defense zones.
  • Always have liquid storage between steps—it helps balance input and output.
  • Defend your infrastructure well—fusion plants are vital, and losing one during an attack could cripple your base.
  • Customize layouts for neatness—you can route pipes for symmetry or compact design, whichever fits your base style.

This setup is a cornerstone of late-game strategy in The Riftbreaker. With fusion power, you’ll never worry about energy shortages again, and with supercharged plasma-fed shields, your base can become nearly impervious to even the most brutal waves. Mastering this layout gives you a powerful, scalable defense system that can carry your campaign well into the late stages.

As always—stay efficient, stay protected, and enjoy the sheer overkill of building a fully shielded fortress powered by the heart of a star.
