After spending over 900 hours in Grounded, I’ve gathered the most useful tips I wish I’d known from the start. These tips will help you progress faster, play smarter, and enjoy the game more—without spoiling the story. Let’s dive in!
1. Peep Every Creature
Peeping creatures reveals critical combat info:
- Keyboard: Press
X - Controller: Press
Y
This adds a creature card to your Data tab, showing:
- Strengths and weaknesses
- Drop loot
- Weak points for precision attacks
Many players only peep once after the tutorial—don’t make that mistake. Peep everything new you encounter.
2. Analyze Every New Resource
When you see an exclamation mark in your inventory, it means that item can be analyzed at a Field Station. Analyzing:
- Unlocks crafting recipes
- Grants Raw Science
- Increases Brain Power, which unlocks more blueprints
Pro Tip: You can analyze grass planks and weed stems by equipping them in-hand.
3. Master Perfect Blocking
Perfect blocking completely negates damage and prevents armor wear:
- Time your block just before impact to trigger it (indicated by sparks and a metallic sound)
- Holding block without perfect timing will still let some damage through
Every enemy has unique attack patterns—learning them makes blocking second nature.
4. Equip Your Mutations
Unlocking a mutation isn’t enough—you have to equip it:
- Open the Status tab
- Select a mutation
- Press
Space(or your button) to activate
You start with two mutation slots and unlock more by collecting Milk Molars.
5. Use a Glider to Avoid Fall Damage
Falling from high places can be fatal. To glide:
- Chop a dandelion
- Collect a tuft and equip it in your Glider Slot
Always keep a tuft equipped when exploring vertical areas like the Hedge or Picnic Table.
6. Use Bows for Utility
Your bow isn’t just for combat:
- Shoot dew drops, berries, and flower petals out of reach
- Knock down pupa or break webs safely from a distance
Retrieve your arrows afterward to conserve resources.
7. Watch Your Oxygen Underwater
Running out of oxygen means instant death. Stay alive by:
- Resurfacing regularly
- Using koi pond air bubbles
- Defeating underwater enemies that refill your oxygen bar
Upgrade to underwater gear later for deeper dives.
8. Automate Crude Rope Production
Crafting rope by hand wastes time and materials:
- Build a Spinning Wheel to convert 1 plant fiber into 1 crude rope
- Pair with a Grinder to break grass and weed stems into more fiber
Set up multiple wheels for maximum efficiency.
9. Make Leather the Smart Way
Avoid handcrafting leather—it’s inefficient:
- Instead, use a Jerky Rack
- 3 berry chunks = 3 leather (vs. just 1 if crafted manually)
This saves time and valuable berries.
10. Set Up Sap Catchers Early
Sap is a constant necessity for crafting. Speed up collection by:
- Placing Sap Catchers on sap-producing branches
- Returning every in-game day to collect
It’s a passive supply you’ll always be thankful for.
11. Farm Web Sacs for Tier 2 Bug Parts
Web sacs often contain rare bug parts:
- Bombardier parts
- Stinkbug parts
- Ladybug heads
Just be ready—breaking them can also spawn spiderlings.
12. Relocate Pallets for Efficient Building
To move materials efficiently:
- Load grass/weed planks onto a pallet
- Use Relocate to carry it
- Wear Red Ant Armor to carry more at once
This is a great method for base building across distances.
13. Use Zip Lines for Fast Transport
Combine pallets with zip lines to move materials long distances. Once connected:
- Send planks and stems straight to your base or build site
- Save time and stamina
Great for large-scale construction.
14. Complete Daily ASL Quests
Every day, visit an ASL terminal to get 3 quests:
- Hunter: Kill specific bugs
- Artificer: Craft specific items
- Trail Marker: Place markers at named locations
Each quest rewards Raw Science for unlocking upgrades.
By using these tips, you’ll streamline your experience, gather resources more efficiently, and handle bugs like a backyard pro. Grounded is full of secrets and surprises, so keep exploring—and have fun out there!
