In Persona 4 Golden, Teddy is a lovable mascot and support character—but before he officially joins your party, you’ll need to face his darker side: Shadow Teddy. This boss fight can be tough if you’re unprepared, but with the right setup and strategy, you’ll come out on top.

1. Recommended Level and Party Composition

Shadow Teddy is level 35, so it’s best to be around level 34–36 when entering the fight. A solid party setup can make the battle much smoother:

  • Yukiko: Your primary healer. Her access to MediaDiorama, and Recarm makes her vital for party sustain and recovery.
  • Chie: Avoid using her ice magic—Shadow Teddy drains Ice. Instead, rely on her physical attacks, which are effective and consistent.
  • Kanji (Optional Alternative): If you want to avoid the temptation of ice attacks altogether, sub in Kanji. His Electric skills and strong physical attacks are a great fit.
  • Protagonist: Equip a Persona with Ice resistance and strong physical or non-ice elemental skills. This will help minimize incoming damage and keep you in control.

2. Shadow Teddy’s Strengths and Weaknesses

Knowing your enemy is key. Shadow Teddy has the following properties:

  • Drains Ice – Avoid Ice attacks at all costs.
  • Resistant to Light and Dark – These elements are a waste of time here.
  • Strong vs. Almighty – Doesn’t completely nullify it, but you’ll get better results from physical and non-Ice elemental skills.

3. Healing and Revivals

This is a long and attrition-based battle, so come prepared with:

  • Healing spells: Media, Diorama, or Mediarama if available.
  • Revival itemsRevival Beads or Balm of Life can turn the tide if a party member goes down.
  • SP-restoring items: To keep Yukiko going, bring Chewing Souls or Snuff Souls.

4. Watch Out for These Attack Patterns

Shadow Teddy follows a predictable sequence, which you can use to your advantage:

  • Marakunda → Heatwave: He’ll lower your defense, then hit hard. Counter this by guarding on the second turn or boosting defense with skills like Rakukaja or Tetra Guard.
  • Mind Charge → Mabufula: A dangerous combo. Mind Charge powers up his next magic attack—Mabufula hits everyone and can easily down the party if unprepared. Heal and guard in anticipation.
  • Ultra Charge → Nihil Hand: Ultra Charge indicates he’s charging a massive AoE attack. Use that turn to heal up and then guard with everyone on the following turn.

5. Countering Silence (Foolish Whisper)

Shadow Teddy may use Foolish Whisper, silencing your party:

  • Silenced characters can’t use skills or switch Personas.
  • Use Amrita or Mouthwash to remove silence quickly.
  • If no party member knows Amrita, make sure you bring a few Mouthwash items before entering the boss fight.

6. Additional Tips for Victory

  • Guard Smartly: Don’t waste turns. If Shadow Teddy uses Ultra Charge or Mind Charge, always guard next turn.
  • Silence Management: Don’t let silence cripple your healing or damage output—cure it immediately.
  • Prioritize Physical Damage: Shadow Teddy takes solid damage from physical attacks. Focus on skills like Power SlashRampage, or Torrent Shot depending on your party.

Victory and Beyond

With strong healing, attentive guarding, and a focus on physical offense, you’ll dismantle Shadow Teddy in no time. Once defeated, Teddy sheds his shadow and joins your party, bringing new abilities and support options for your journey.
