Welcome to my final Doom Eternal guide! It’s been a blast covering all sorts of tips, but today we’re wrapping it up with an in-depth look at how to best handle each demon in the game. Whether you’re facing a simple fodder enemy or one of the game’s toughest foes, this guide will help you strategize and optimize your combat approach.

Understanding the Basics

Before diving into specifics, there’s one critical principle you need to grasp about Doom Eternal: not all weapons are created equal when it comes to different demons. Some weapons may tear through fodder enemies in seconds, but they won’t necessarily deal the same damage to stronger enemies. The game’s damage system isn’t as straightforward as it seems, and understanding enemy resistances is key.

  • Weapon Resistance: While fodder enemies don’t have damage resistance, many of the tougher demons do. For example, using the plasma gun on a Cacodemon may feel like an effective approach, but it’s actually one of the worst mistakes you can make.
  • Switching Weapons: Always keep your weapons varied and switch often depending on the demon you’re facing. Using a suboptimal weapon wastes time and ammunition, which makes the game harder than it needs to be.

Fodder Enemies

Let’s start with the basic enemies. These won’t take much thought but are still good to mention for strategies:

  • Maker Drones: The most unique fodder. The best tactic here is to keep them alive and headshot them when you need resources.
  • Glory Kills: The most reliable way to earn glory kills is by using the Heavy Cannon, so keep this in mind for quick and effective takedowns.

Heavy Units and How to Handle Them

  1. Arachnotron, Revenant, Mancubus:
    • These demons wield dangerous weapons that can be shut off. Use your Heavy Cannon’s Precision Bolt or Sticky Grenades to disable their weapons first. Once disabled, use a heavier weapon like the Chain Gun or Rocket Launcher to finish them off.
    • For the Arachnotron and Mancubus, three rockets should do the job. The Revenant, however, only needs one well-placed rocket.
  2. Rocket Launcher & Chain Gun:
    • These weapons should be your go-to for taking down heavy units. The Rocket Launcher’s lock-on mode offers a quick three-hit barrage, while the Chain Gun’s turret mode locks enemies in place and deals massive damage, especially when targeting weakened enemies.

Cacodemon & Pain Elemental

  1. Cacodemon:
    • This enemy is one of the easiest in the game. You can toss a grenade or sticky bomb into its mouth for an instant glory kill. If you’re out of grenades, a shot from the Ballista will do the trick, requiring only one or two shots.
  2. Pain Elemental:
    • These beefier versions of the Cacodemon require a bit more firepower. A couple of Arvola shots or three to four regular Ballista shots should bring them down. Five rockets are needed for a Pain Elemental, which is significantly more than what you’d use on a Cacodemon.

Whiplash and Prowler

These demons are quick and elusive, making them tricky to deal with. Here’s how to handle them:

  1. Prowler:
    • Since they are weak, you can take them down with a quick Super Shotgun shot.
  2. Whiplash:
    • These are tougher and require either a couple of lock-on rockets for a glory kill or several shots with the Ballista. You can also use your Super Shotgun for a close-range kill, but be wary of taking damage in the process.

Pinkies and Spectres

  • Pinkies are heavily armored at the front with a weak tail. If you’re out of ice bombs, the Blood Punch will deal with them effectively. If you’re desperate, use the Chain Gun to prevent them from getting too close.
  • Spectres are harder to deal with due to their cloaking abilities. Use the Blood Punch or try to land a shot at their weak tail while keeping your distance.

Cyber Mancubus & Doom Hunter

  1. Cyber Mancubus:
    • Use a Blood Punch to remove its armor, then take it down with your preferred heavy weapon (Rocket Launcher, Chain Gun, etc.).
  2. Doom Hunter:
    • The Doom Hunter has a shield that can be disabled with your Plasma Gun. Once the shield is down, switch to a stronger weapon like the Chain Gun or Super Shotgun to target his platform.

The Marauder

The Marauder is arguably the most unique and difficult enemy in Doom Eternal. Here’s how to take him down:

  • Strategy: The key to dealing with the Marauder is to run away from him. This forces him to shoot his beam, which you can easily dodge. If he summons his dog, you’ll have time to kill it before it gets too close.
  • Interrupting Attacks: The Marauder will charge at you and attempt an axe attack. Use your Super Shotgun to interrupt him. You can also switch to the Ballista for an extra shot if needed.

Advanced Tactics for Stronger Demons

  1. Baron of Hell:
    • After using a Blood Punch to break its armor, the Baron can be dealt with using the Chain Gun turret mode.
  2. Arch-Vile:
    • This demon can summon and buff others, making it a priority target. Use your hardest-hitting weapons to deal with him quickly, like the BFG or Crucible. The Chain Gun works, but only if there are few other demons around.
  3. Tyrant:
    • Despite its size, the Tyrant isn’t as tough as it appears. Use the BFG, Crucible, or lock-on rockets for a quick takedown.

Conclusion

With this guide, you now have a strategy to handle every demon Doom Eternal throws at you. Keep your weapons varied, know when to switch, and never underestimate the importance of managing ammunition efficiently.
