How Scrap Spawns

Scrap is generated at the start of the moon load. The moment you pull the lever to land, the game generates a random seed, which dictates scrap placement across the map.

Categories of Rooms

There are two main categories of rooms:

  1. Loot Spawning Rooms – These rooms will always generate scrap.
  2. Non-Loot Spawning Rooms – These rooms do not generate scrap naturally, though scrap can sometimes appear due to proximity to loot-spawning areas.

Non-Loot Spawning Rooms

  • Brick Hallways – These do not generate loot.
  • Main Entrance Room – No forced scrap generation.
  • Back Rooms – Commonly mistaken for potential loot areas, but they do not force scrap to spawn.

However, you may occasionally see loot in these areas, which occurs when the spawn radius from nearby loot rooms extends into these zones.

Loot Spawning Rooms

The following rooms are designated loot spawning zones:

  • Locker Rooms – Frequently contain small item spawns in lockers and corners.
  • Belt Room – The large, four-tile room with conveyor-like features.
  • Catwalk/Grating Tiles – These include staircases and metal grates.
  • Jump Tiles – Areas requiring jumps may have loot spawns nearby.
  • Apparatus Room – Even if the apparatus is not present, these rooms can contain scrap.
  • Server Rooms – Often have valuable loot placements.
  • White Floor Rooms – Any room with a distinct white floor can spawn loot.

Each loot spawning room has a circular spawn radius, meaning that scrap is not confined to the room itself but can appear in the nearby vicinity, even slightly extending into non-loot rooms.

Why Scrap Appears in Unexpected Places

Since scrap spawns within a circular radius around loot rooms, it sometimes appears in locations like:

  • Near the Main Entrance – If a stairwell or catwalk tile is nearby, scrap may spawn within its range.
  • Inside Brick Rooms – While these do not force generate loot, adjacent loot rooms (e.g., server rooms) can extend their spawn radius into these spaces.

Exact Spawn Locations Within Loot Rooms

While loot spawns dynamically within a room’s radius, there are specific exact spawn points:

  1. Shelves & Racks – Scrap is often placed on storage shelves.
  2. Pallets – Found in storage and industrial-themed rooms.
  3. Lockers (in Locker Rooms) – Small items may spawn inside.
  4. Corners of Rooms – Especially in larger loot tiles.
  5. Gray Metal Surfaces – Sometimes loot appears atop these structures.

Mansion-Specific Loot Behavior

  • Unpredictable Spawning – Unlike industrial layouts, the mansion map does not follow clear loot spawn patterns.
  • Key Loot Locations:
    • Kitchen – Often contains the highest loot density.
    • TV Room – Typically contains valuable items.
    • Tables – Frequently hold multiple item spawns.

Since almost every mansion tile is a loot-spawning tile, expect loot scattered throughout the layout.

Conclusion

Understanding the mechanics of scrap spawn locations can significantly improve your efficiency in scavenging. Knowing which rooms guarantee loot and how spawn radii work allows for better planning, faster runs, and higher profits.
