Surviving the first trial in The Outlast Trials is a challenge, but with the right strategy and execution, you can navigate through the police station, power up the generators, and finish off the snitch efficiently. This guide breaks down every step, key mechanics, and best practices to ensure a smooth run while minimizing risk.
Starting the Trial: The Quickest Route to Safety
As soon as you exit the tube, start running. Your first objective is to bypass the initial enemy encounter by immediately jumping onto the nearby car, then moving quickly into the side of the truck. Speed is key here because a large enemy will spawn almost instantly, and if you’re quick, you can completely avoid engaging with him.
From here, head straight into the police station. Your next objective is reaching the security room, but there are two enemies between you and it:
- The Raspy Screamer: This enemy is highly sensitive to noise. If you get too close or make too much noise, it will unleash a devastating scream that stuns you, making you vulnerable to other enemies. Move quietly and cautiouslypast it to avoid detection.
- The Machete Enemy: Fortunately, you don’t need to fight or avoid him for long. Just sprint past him and enter the security room, where you’ll find a button that progresses the trial. Watch the short cinematic and prepare to move forward.
Activating the Generators and Refueling
Once you leave the security room, your next goal is to reach the Snitch, which is located down the railway tracks. Start pushing the snitch forward until the power cuts out. At this point, leave the snitch and head left down the cell corridors to find the power source. This is where gas cans and generators come into play.
Gas Can & Generator Locations
Both gas cans and generators have randomized spawn points. This means you’ll need to search the area for them every time you play. Your approach should be:
- Locate generators first – These are essential to restoring power.
- Gather fuel cans – You’ll need them to start the generators.
- Interact with the generators – Each generator requires three steps:
- Tinker with switches: One of them will activate two green lights, while the others only turn on one. Keep flipping until you find the right combination.
- Refuel with a gas can.
- Crank the generator: Aim for three successful green zones to activate it.
Beware—activating generators makes noise and will attract enemies, especially the Cop, who is highly aggressive during this phase. If you’re interrupted, disengage and go to the next generator rather than risking unnecessary encounters.
Returning to the Snitch and Unlocking Gates
Once the power is restored, head back to the snitch by retracing your path through the garage door and up the road. Sprint while pushing the snitch to move faster. At this stage, the game introduces a puzzle mechanic requiring three body keys to unlock the gates ahead.
Finding the Right Bodies
- Look at the TV screens to see the symbols corresponding to the required bodies.
- Start searching all the bodies in the area and match their symbols to the clues.
- If you forget the clues, press Tab to check your objectives in the top left corner.
- Typically, keys are found near their respective gates, so check nearby if you’ve only found two.
This part can take anywhere from a few minutes to much longer depending on luck and RNG. If you’re methodical and check bodies strategically, you’ll speed up the process significantly.
Pushing the Snitch to Execution
Once all three gates are unlocked, sprint push the snitch while avoiding enemies. Using Adrenaline at this point can be incredibly helpful. If you run into an enemy, try leading them backwards into an area you’ve already cleared rather than towards your objective. Letting go of the snitch will cause it to roll backward, but fortunately, checkpoints at each gate prevent it from rolling all the way back.
After the snitch is inside the execution chamber, you’ll need to activate the machine using a handle. At this point, the Cop will spawn and immediately start hunting you down. This is where preparing the environment in advance pays off.
How to Outsmart the Cop During Execution
- Earlier in the trial, unlock doors and create escape routes.
- Lead the Cop away from the execution chamber, then loop back while he’s distracted.
- Shut doors behind you to buy yourself extra time.
- Once the Cop is far enough away, quickly return to the chamber and finish executing the snitch.
Once the execution is complete, head straight for the exit.
Escaping Safely
You aren’t safe just yet. The Cop is still roaming, and a big enemy from the start of the trial is also lurking outside. Your goal is to:
- Run out through the exit doors.
- Shut the doors behind you to slow down the Cop.
- Make your way to the garage door and lift it quickly.
- Reach the exit tubes and hit the button to call them in.
- Survive for 10 seconds while the exit shuttle arrives.
- Use throwables like bricks or bottles to slow down any pursuing enemies.
- Jump into the tube as soon as it opens.
Final Tips for Success
- Take your time—rushing through the trial increases mistakes.
- Memorize enemy spawn points to anticipate danger.
- Keep a throwable item in your inventory for crowd control.
- Don’t panic—calm and methodical play will keep you alive.
- Use escape routes wisely—planning ahead makes survival much easier.
Congratulations! By following these strategies, you’ve successfully completed the first trial in The Outlast Trials. This method ensures efficiency while minimizing risks. Now that you’ve mastered the basics, it’s time to refine your gameplay for even smoother runs. See you in the next guide!
