In the haunting conclusion to the Dead City chapter of Metro Exodus, players are introduced to one of the most unsettling enemies in the game—the Blind Ones. As the name suggests, these mutated creatures lack eyesight, relying entirely on sound to detect and hunt their prey. It’s within the confines of the Research Facility that you’ll face these beasts and, if you play your cards right, earn the ironically titled ‘Guide’ trophy for completing the sequence without killing a single Blind One.

This guide will walk you through the key strategies and moments needed to secure this trophy.

What Are the Blind Ones?

The Blind Ones are massive, humanoid creatures with no visible eyes. Though they can’t see, they have heightened hearing and an acute sense of awareness of sound. Gunfire, running, or interacting with objects can trigger them—so your goal is to avoid detection and escape, not engage.

While you technically can shoot them, any direct kill will void your eligibility for the ‘Guide’ trophy. You’re better off treating this as a stealth and evasion sequence.

Preparation Tips

  • Play on Lower Difficulty: If you’re replaying the chapter, consider lowering the difficulty to make your escape easier. Enemies are less aggressive, and your movement will be more forgiving.
  • Use Quick Saves: Metro Exodus allows manual saving, so use it. Save before entering areas with known Blind One patrols, especially right before using terminals or dropping into new rooms.

Walkthrough: The Research Facility

1. Initial Encounter

As soon as you enter the research facility, you’ll spot your first Blind One. To proceed, you’ll need to access a power control terminal to open a locked gate. The Blind One will likely patrol near this area.

  • Avoid sprinting.
  • Crouch-walk where possible to reduce noise.
  • If the Blind One is blocking your path, remain patient. They can sometimes bug out or wander off after a delay.

2. Gate Activation

Once the first Blind One has wandered off or been avoided, activate the power switch. This opens the path forward. There are roughly five Blind Ones in total scattered throughout the facility.

3. Main Hall and Vision Segment

Shortly after the gate opens, you’ll pass through a short vision or hallucination sequence. Continue moving forward, and you’ll soon encounter another Blind One. This one blocks the route, but you can outrun it.

  • Run, don’t fight. Blind Ones are slower than Artyom, so use your speed.

4. Drop Down Into Second Structure

You’ll eventually drop down into another building. A Blind One is nearby, but if you move quickly, you can exit the room before they lock onto you.

  • As with the others, don’t shoot or attempt to harm them. Just push forward.

5. Power Room With Two Blind Ones

This room contains a power terminal you must activate, and a door switch on the upper floor. Two Blind Ones patrol this area.

  • The moment you use the power terminal, one Blind One will spawn in the room.
  • Move quickly and squeeze past. You can do this without getting hit.
  • As you ascend to activate the door switch, another Blind One often appears behind you. Watch your back and try to hug walls or ledges to slip by.

If you manage to activate the switch and avoid both without killing, you’re nearly there.

Final Encounter – The Technicality

There is one last Blind One you’ll encounter during a scripted sequence involving QTE button prompts (usually spamming the square button on PlayStation). While it appears that the creature dies during this final confrontation, it’s important to note that the kill does not count against the trophy, as it’s part of the narrative and not player-driven.

So breathe easy—this won’t void your run.

What If You Die?

Dying during the Research Facility section does not reset your trophy progress—as long as you haven’t killed any Blind Ones during your current run. Simply restart from your latest checkpoint or manual save and continue.

Trophy Tips Recap:

  • Don’t kill any Blind Ones manually.
  • Don’t engage with weapons or grenades.
  • Use crouch-walking and patience.
  • Replay the chapter on easier difficulty for stress-free navigation.
  • Quick save before each major encounter.

Once you make it through the entire Research Facility and reach the final scripted encounter, the ‘Guide’ trophy will unlock.

Final Notes

This segment is one of the most tense and atmospheric moments in Metro Exodus, and it’s made even more thrilling when approached non-lethally. Whether you’re trophy hunting or just immersing yourself in the challenge, outwitting the Blind Ones without violence is a rewarding experience.

Good luck, and remember—just because they’re blind doesn’t mean they can’t find you.
