With the full force of her royal lineage awakened, Princess Zelda finally takes center stage in Age of Calamity—not just as a symbol of hope, but as a powerhouse fighter wielding the sacred Bow of Light. Blending holy energy and tactical flair, her new weapon introduces one of the game’s most complicated, yet devastating, playstyles. In this guide, we’ll unravel the nuances of Zelda’s luminous form and show how to unleash its true potential.

Basic Combos – Setting the Stage with Light

Zelda’s normal attack string with the Bow of Light consists of seven elegant but powerful stages. She conjures spheres of light, intensifying in number and scale, before dropping beams and culminating in a radiant arrow volley. It’s a performance of power—but more importantly, the sixth hit in this string creates rings of light around enemies.

These glowing rings aren’t just for show. When an enemy is affected by them, they’ll take roughly 50% more damagefrom Zelda’s arrow-based attacks. Not every light blast she produces counts as an “arrow,” though, which adds a layer of complexity to her rhythm. Learning which attacks benefit from the ring debuff is crucial to maximizing her damage.

Her regular dash attack quickly throws out three spheres of light—effective for light crowd control and transitioning into further combos. Meanwhile, her dash strong attack is more strategic: it creates a light vortex that not only damages but also sets rings without needing full proximity—a lifesaver against aggressive foes.

Zelda’s aerial light string dishes out three fast strikes, with the final one also placing rings. Her strong aerial attack, on the other hand, fires arrows downward—making it ideal once enemies are already ringed up and ready to be punished.

Runes – Radiant Utility

The Sheikah Slate remains integral to Zelda’s kit, though here it shines with more finesse:

  • Stasis: Zelda time-locks enemies, then auto-summons a barrage of arrows if you mash X. While she can’t dodge cancel out of this animation like most characters, it doesn’t hold her back—this is arguably the strongest stasis follow-up in the game. If enemies are ringed beforehand, this move can decimate weak point gauges.
  • Cryonis: Summons four ice blocks, then blasts them with a light beam. To preserve the blocks, you must dodge cancel out of the animation fast—this makes for a rare moment of utility over power.
  • Magnesis: Limited mostly to object interaction. It lacks offensive value compared to other characters.
  • Remote Bombs: Zelda hurls bombs that not only detonate but automatically apply light rings—doubling as crowd control and a prelude to damage.

Strong Attacks – Control, Setup, Execution

Zelda’s strong attacks layer radiant utility with strategic planning. Understanding which ones create rings and which use arrows is key to forming high-damage loops.

  • Strong 1: A small vortex that can place light rings. It’s spammable, fast, and perfect for initiating.
  • Strong 2: Rays descend, followed by a delayed blast. Not a ring creator or arrow move, but leaves her airborne—allowing quick transitions into aerial options or evasive movement.
  • Strong 3: Zelda spins back and casts a large light blast that sets rings. It’s fast, has decent area effect, and is ideal for both offense and setup.
  • Strong 4: A volley of arrows rains from above. Despite the visual chaos, enemies within the full spread will always take damage—precision isn’t a concern here.
  • Strong 5: She lobs an orb of light that expands into a vortex. A heavy-hitter and ring setter; excellent for grouped enemies.
  • Strong 6: Zelda summons orbs and unleashes a powerful long-range arrow. It’s slow to charge, but reveals weak point gauges and punishes hard when timed well. Use this preemptively to anticipate enemy movement—it can be easily interrupted up close.

Unique Action – Luminescent Rampage Mode

Zelda’s Luminescent Mode redefines how she uses her special attack gauge. Instead of a single nuke, her unique action lets her toggle into a radiant form at will—unlocking a secondary move set.

Once active:

  • She can’t block, and her dodging becomes four-directional only.
  • She’s immune to hitstun, meaning attacks can’t be interrupted mid-animation.

Her entire moveset is replaced with instant-cast abilities:

  • Y – Triggers her Strong 4, the arrow rain.
  • X – Executes Strong 2, summoning rays of light.
  • ZL + Y – A quicker version of Strong 6. Doesn’t reveal weak points, but deals enormous damage.
  • ZL + X – Calls on Strong 5, the expanding light vortex.
  • ZL + B – Launches Strong 3, setting light rings via a wide blast.

This mode doesn’t need to be spammed or constantly maintained. It’s a precision tool, allowing you to shift Zelda into high gear at exactly the right moment, then exit when the situation cools down.

Weapon Choices & Build Recommendations

Zelda’s three weapons for this form include:

  • Sacred Bow
  • Sealing Bow
  • Bow of Light (Her signature weapon)

Technically, a fully built Sealing Bow edges out the Bow of Light in raw attack by just four points. However, unlike Link’s Master Sword, the Bow of Light isn’t hampered by conditional mechanics. Its synergy with Zelda’s kit and innate strength makes it her best weapon overall, even outside of anti-Ganon maps.

The Bow of Light includes:

  • 1x Square Seal (Attack Speed)
  • 1x Hex Seal (Support Buff)

Recommended Build:

  • Add 3 more Square Seals to boost Attack Speed further
  • Add 1 more Hex Seal—ideally Damage per 100 KOs or another support bonus of choice

Speed is essential in both base and luminescent form. It improves everything from ring setup to combo transitions and aerial cancels.

Final Thoughts – Divine Grace, Tactical Power

Zelda’s Bow of Light build isn’t immediately intuitive. It demands understanding of visual cues, timing, and execution. But once you internalize her ring mechanics and luminescent mode’s tactical flow, she blossoms into one of the most potent zoners and comboers in Age of Calamity.

Setting up rings, exploiting them with stasis or heavy arrow strikes, then toggling luminescent mode to clean up—it’s a rhythm that requires finesse but rewards you with some of the highest consistent damage in the game.

And the best part? Unlike earlier iterations of Zelda, this version fights with divine purpose and confidence. She is not just royalty—she is retribution.
