In GreedFall, one of the best legendary armor sets you can obtain early in the game is the Merchant Prince Ceremonial Armor Set. This guide walks you through how to acquire it via two methods—either using a key or lockpicking—and explains the key stats and benefits of the full set.
Location and Preparation
After completing the prologue in Serene, you will travel to New Serene. From there, head out of the city toward the “Wenshaganaw, The Singing Waters” region. Once in this new area, you’ll enter from the bottom-right corner of the local map. Make your way northward through the canyon and then take the left path toward a riverside clearing. Just north of this area is a campsite—use it as your starting point.
Method 1: Using the Rich Merchant’s Key
In the forest clearing near the campsite, you will encounter a Guardian boss enemy. Defeat this creature to safely loot the area. On one of the bodies near the tent, you’ll find the “Rich Merchant’s Key.” This key allows you to open a nearby locked chest without the need for lockpicking skills.
The chest is found near the river, close to the original campsite. If you’re not using the key, the chest requires level 3 lockpicking to open.
Armor Set Contents
Once unlocked, the chest contains:
- Merchant Prince Ceremonial Kuras (Legendary Chest Armor)
- Ambassador’s Hat
These items are standout early-game pieces due to their powerful stats and low attribute requirements. The full set only requires 2 points in Endurance to equip.
Key Stats:
- Armor Rating: High (Kuras has one of the highest early-game values)
- Endurance Requirement: 2
- Loot Chance: +50% (from Kuras and Hat combined)
- Fury Generation: +10%
- Magical Resistance and Balance bonuses
- Charisma Boost (when paired with the Merchant’s Cape, optional)
Crafting and Upgrades
You can take the armor to a crafting workbench to further enhance its performance. You can boost armor rating or additional resistances depending on your crafting skills and available materials.
Why It’s Worth It
This set provides a solid mix of defense, utility, and style for a very low investment in attribute points. It is one of the best starter armor sets for both exploration and combat, especially if you’re looking to maximize loot returns and reduce grind.
Tips:
- Use level 3 lockpicking if you want to skip the Guardian boss.
- Equip the Merchant’s Cape for a +1 Charisma bonus.
- Defeating nearby bandits yields additional rare weapons and armor.
