The Light Flamberge is one of the most powerful one-handed swords you can acquire right at the beginning of GreedFall, and it can completely change the way you approach early combat. This guide walks you through exactly where to find it, how to obtain the key to its chest, how to sneak or fight your way to it, and what makes this weapon so valuable.

🗺️ Where to Find the Light Flamberge

Once you’ve left the starting city of Serene and arrived at New Serene, exit the town via the left-side gate and head toward a region called Singing Waters. This area is accessible very early in the game, and you won’t need to be high level to explore it.

On your local map, you’ll enter from the bottom right. Your goal is to reach a campsite near a river and bridge, located toward the middle of the zone.

🗝️ How to Get the Key to the Chest

Near that bridge and campsite, head left across the bridge and look for a hidden tent in a forest clearing. You’ll likely have to defeat a group of bears here first.

Inside this small camp is a glowing key lying near the tent (orange glow for visibility). Pick it up. This is the chest keyyou’ll need to unlock the legendary weapon.

🧭 How to Reach the Chest

From the key location, head back toward the entrance to Singing Waters. Just left of the zone entry, you’ll find a cliff guarded by bandits.

Here are your options:

  • Option 1: Sneak Past – Follow the hill’s curve and crouch-walk behind the bandits. Stay out of their cone of vision. Doing this at nighttime helps reduce detection.
  • Option 2: Fight – Save your game and go in swinging. The enemies aren’t too tough if you’re a few levels in, and defeating them gives you some rare loot (more on that below).

Once past the guards, approach the chest nestled near the rocks. Use the key—or, if you have lockpicking level 2, you can open it directly without the key.

Inside, you’ll find the Light Flamberge.

⚔️ Weapon Stats: Light Flamberge

  • Base Physical Damage: 264
  • Stun: 95%
  • Fury Generation: 8%
  • Armor Damage: 13 (low, since it’s a sword)
  • Fury Cost: 33%
  • Requirements: One-Handed Blades, Agility 3

This is an exceptional weapon early in the game—most other weapons at this point won’t touch this level of damage. On top of that, the stun rate and fury generation make it deadly in extended combat.

Its design is just as impressive, with a serpentine sword hilt and ornate detailing that stands out from basic weapons.

🔧 How to Upgrade the Light Flamberge

Visit a crafting bench or workshop. You’ll be able to modify two parts:

Pommel:

  • Choose Weighted Elongated Pommel for +60 Physical Damage

Guard:

  • Choose Basket Guard to further boost Physical Damage

With both upgrades, the weapon’s damage increases to 384, making it a devastating option throughout early and even mid-game.

🧤 Bonus Loot – Why Fighting the Bandits Is Worth It

If you decide to take on the bandits guarding the cliff, you’ll get:

  • 96 Armor Rare Chest Piece (only requires 1 Endurance)
  • Sharpened Steel Broadsword Saber (410 Damage)
  • Blackened Pepperbox Pistol (319 Damage)
  • Priest Gloves and other usable loot

This makes the fight not just worthwhile for XP, but also for potentially kitting out your character and companions early.

🎒 Final Thoughts: Should You Get It Early?

Yes. The Light Flamberge is:

  • Easy to obtain early
  • Extremely high damage
  • Stun-heavy and fury-efficient
  • Upgradeable to near mid-late game stats

Add in the extra loot and optional stealth approach, and you’ve got one of the best early weapons available.

Grab the key. Grab the sword. Change your game.
