Welcome back to another guided repair walkthrough in Car Mechanic Simulator 2021! Today’s task is the Story Order 3 job — the Valson 2040. This car came in with a simple but ominous note: “The car stopped working.” No surprises that the repair list turned out to be substantial, but thankfully, no hidden parts this time. Let’s dive into the process, step-by-step.
Diagnosis and Disassembly: Knowing What You’re Dealing With
Upon inspecting the car, it’s clear that while the paint’s in rough shape, our job isn’t cosmetic — it’s mechanical. After raising the car, we drain the oil immediately (trust us, you will forget if you wait). While we’re under there, off comes the oil filter and fuel pump.
Next, we lower the car to get into the engine bay. First, we remove the fuel filter and then the radiator — and here comes our first mistake: forgetting to drain the coolant. Don’t be like us. That’s a charge you don’t need.
From here, it’s a chain of disassembly:
- Alternator
- Water pump
- Idler roller
- Crankshaft pulley
- Timing cover
- Belt tensioner
- Timing belt
- Cam gear
Afterwards, we unbolt and lift the engine head to access the spark plugs and ignition wires. Thankfully, no need to remove the camshaft in this model — saving a bit of time.
Electrical Components: Fuses & Relays
Time to tackle the fuse box. A quick inspection reveals two faulty relays: Relay Type A and B. These get replaced after identifying the problematic ones at 1% condition. It’s a reminder that even tiny components like these can ground an entire vehicle.
Clutch Assembly: Getting Dirty Underneath
Moving back below, we remove the starter, then unbolt and disconnect the drive shaft. Once clear, the gearbox is ready to come off. After disassembly:
- Clutch release bearing
- Pressure plate
- Finally, the clutch plate (one of the required replacements)
None of these were salvageable, unfortunately. Expect to pay out of pocket here.
Reassembly: Reversing the Puzzle
With parts bought (and yes, we spared you the shopping montage), it’s time to reassemble. Starting with the clutch assembly, we reverse our steps: clutch plate, pressure plate, release bearing, gearbox, drive shaft, starter.
Then we finish the underbody with the fuel pump and oil filter — using only components above the required 75% threshold.
Back in the engine bay, we reassemble the fuse box, refit the cam gear, belts, ignition system, engine head cover, alternator, radiator, and water pump. Most belts were replaced; a few rollers reused if in good condition.
Fluids & Final Touches
All parts in? Time for the fluids. The full lineup includes:
- Engine oil
- Brake fluid
- Power steering fluid
- Windshield washer fluid
- Radiator coolant (don’t forget to drain and refill if you removed it!)
Finishing the Job: XP, Rewards, and Extra Tips
With everything checked off, the job is complete — and it was a hefty one. The Valson 2040 may not be the flashiest ride, but it’s a great example of a job that teaches you to respect every corner of the car.
Bonus tip: using your tools (like the diagnostic scanner) gives extra XP per part scanned — a great way to squeeze every drop of progress out of each repair.
And don’t forget your reward case! We pulled a few bonuses including XP cards, a barn map (usable at level 10), and a stash of restoration parts. A nice cherry on top.
Also worth noting: you can quickly sell all your junk parts using the sorting feature (hit ‘V’). Selling anything below 40% in one go will keep your inventory clean and make space for the good stuff.
Conclusion: Another Story Order Down
That wraps up Story Order 3. The Valson 2040 job is now complete, fluids are topped off, and everything runs smoothly again. This one had a bit of everything — clutch work, electrical diagnosis, and a full fluids suite.
