If you want to become a deadly force with Axe in Brawlhalla, you’ve come to the right place. Axe is currently one of the strongest weapons in the meta, and while nerfs may be on the horizon, the fundamentals of playing this powerhouse will still be relevant. In this guide, Vin shares a series of insightful and actionable tips to help you make the most out of every swing. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned warrior, these tips will elevate your gameplay.
1. GC and Platform Cancel Delight After Sidelight Air
- Sidelight Air into GC or Platform Cancel Delight used to be a true combo, and while it’s no longer guaranteed, it’s still extremely effective, especially at white HP when dodges are down.
- At 6 dex (like Jhala), you can get a 1-frame Dodge window, making this setup practically guaranteed against opponents who aren’t expecting it.
2. Spam Nair
- Nair has one of the most absurd hitboxes in the game. It’s fast, safe, and deals around 20 damage.
- Great for juggling and zoning—use it to trace enemy movement or stuff jump-ins.
- Use off platforms, out of Delight, and as a safe retreating option (dash forward or back Nair).
- It’s especially strong offstage for stuffing edgeguards and scoring cheeky hits from odd angles.
3. Don’t Always Fall with Dair or Sair
- Falling Dair and Sair are predictable.
- Instead, utilize grounded attacks like Endlight and Delight to force reactions and keep grounded control.
- Walk-up Jump Dair is a better pressure tool—great for catching panic jumps.
- Jump Sair is a fantastic edgeguarding tool and can cover many dodging scenarios due to its massive hitbox.
4. Use Grounded Tools More Often
- Delight and Endlight have ridiculous force field-like hitboxes. Endlight catches grounded rushes; Delight catches diagonal jump-ins.
- They are safer than people think and excellent for conditioning defensive habits.
5. Use Jump Recovery and Ground Pound Smartly
- Both are excellent circular moves that can function on and offstage.
- Jump Recovery is perfect for catching jumps or after Nair juggles.
- Ground Pound can be used from the edge when players try to dodge through you—it still hits because of the circular nature.
6. Extend Combos with Better Juggles
- Don’t settle for one Sidelight Air. Follow up with Nairs if they jump or drift.
- Use Dash Off Platform Nair when they try to land.
- Read movement and continue pressure with directional Nairs or Sairs to keep control.
7. Use Weapon Throws Intelligently
- Axe weapon throws are large and often lead into Endlight or platform resets.
- If you throw and hit, even with dodge frames, Endlight will usually follow up and keep pressure.
8. GC Sidelight -> Sair Combo
- Sidelight into Sair is better when GC’d because it catches closer.
- Use GC Sidelight as a punish tool after spot-dodging an enemy attack.
- Be cautious—don’t fish for it or you’ll get punished hard.
9. Bait Edgeguards with Sigs and Delight
- Many Axe sigs are fast and baitable. Throw them on the edge (even if they won’t hit) and follow up with Endlight to punish punishers.
- Delight can also serve this purpose—throw it out at range, and then Endlight to catch their punish attempt.
Final Notes
Even with changes to Axe expected after BCX, the concepts in this guide—pressure, spacing, reading, and creative use of your kit—will still apply. Keep evolving with the weapon, and you’ll stay ahead of the curve. Happy swinging!
