In Biomutant, the mech suit is one of the most powerful tools you can obtain early in the game—if you know where to look. This guide walks you through how to unlock the mech suit, explore the Deadzone, gather upgrades, and defeat the first World Eater boss: Jumbo Puff.
Step 1: Unlocking the Mech Suit
After completing the tutorial and exiting into the open world, head to the Chugyard Station. This is one of the first outposts you’ll come across and is clearly marked. Talk to Gizmo inside the station to trigger the mech suit questline. You’ll need to assist him in collecting parts and preparing the suit for deployment.
Important Tip:
You’ll need to survive the Deadzone—a hypoxia area with no breathable oxygen. Don’t be deterred. Even without a proper airtight suit, the route is designed so that you can sprint between oxygen pockets like doorways and buildings to catch your breath. You can do this at a low level.
Step 2: Navigating the Deadzone
Once you agree to help Gizmo, he’ll ask you to collect components. Run between safe areas using the map markers. Avoid the sludge, as falling into it will almost certainly kill you. Look out for yellow environmental markers to climb and vault over buildings. Each checkpoint will refill your oxygen.
Eventually, you’ll collect enough mech suit components and deliver them to Gizmo. He’ll assemble the Mekton and unlock it for you to use in the Deadzone.
Step 3: Using the Mech Suit
The mech suit allows safe travel in hypoxia zones and includes:
- A net to catch creatures (Sqiups)
- A claw for interacting with the environment
- Ranged and melee attacks
Note: The Mekton can only be summoned within the Deadzone and at specific parking areas. It cannot be used freely across the entire map.
You’ll also be introduced to Moog, a nearby NPC who gives you side quests, including hunts and special armor sets if you follow the light path.
Step 4: Catching Sqiups
Gizmo will eventually ask you to collect Sqiups—small creatures used to distract bosses. These are found in a cave after completing a short side quest. Use the net function in the Mekton to catch at least five.
While in the cave, you’ll also find:
- A Bio Point upgrade area
- Puzzle challenges (no high Intellect required)
- A one-handed revolver and heavy melee weapon (great early-game gear)
Step 5: Defeating Jumbo Puff
Once equipped, you’re ready to take on Jumbo Puff, the first World Eater.
Boss Fight Phases:
- Phase One – Basic attacks from range while strafing to avoid projectiles. Use Sqiups to distract.
- Phase Two – Jumbo Puff begins throwing rocks and performing area attacks. Use tongue-grab prompts to deal massive damage.
- Phase Three – The boss swallows you. Climb up its innards by jumping between platforms while avoiding green bile. Attack its heart using melee for maximum damage.
Complete all phases to take down Jumbo Puff and progress the main story.
Final Tips:
- The Mech suit has cosmetic and minor combat upgrades scattered throughout the Deadzone.
- You can’t use the Mekton in most above-ground areas, even when oxygen isn’t a concern.
- Always stock up on Bio Points to boost your resistance or unlock mutations.
That’s it! With the Mekton and a few good weapons, you’re ready to dominate the early game and blaze a path through Biomutant’s vibrant post-apocalyptic world.
