In Brawlhalla, people only care about two things: how to get better and how to reach Diamond. Since most players are in Gold or Platinum, Diamond seems like a far-off goal. But reaching Diamond isn’t impossible—it’s really not that hard. I don’t even take the game seriously and still manage to hit Diamond just for the border.
You don’t need expensive coaching. If you already know the basics, here’s what you should focus on to improve and hit Diamond:
- Reset Neutral
Understand the three game states: Advantage, Neutral, and Disadvantage. When you hit someone, you’re in Advantage. Instead of chasing too hard, fall back and reset to Neutral. Low-rank players often panic and make mistakes when pressure resets, allowing you to regain Advantage without overextending. - Stop Autopiloting
Playing on muscle memory alone makes you predictable. Instead of throwing out random attacks, think before you strike. Watch your replays to identify patterns and bad habits. Make your attacks intentional. - Move More, Attack Less
Brawlhalla isn’t a button-masher. Move around your opponent to create openings rather than throwing out constant attacks. You don’t need flashy movement; you need accurate movement. For example:
- To catch jumps: jump
- To catch dash-jumps: dash-jump
- To punish back-dashes: dash forward
- Adapt to Patterns
Every player has a pattern. Use light attacks to test reactions:
- Do they always wake up attack? Fall back and punish.
- Are they super passive? Mirror them or bait them with safe moves.
- Use weapon throws and footsies to bait actions.
- Don’t Try to Punish Everything
Some moves, especially certain sigs, have low recovery time and are hard to punish. Going for a punish every time can put you in a worse spot. Choose your punishes wisely. - Play at the End of the Season
This is underrated. Near the end of each ranked season, most high-ELO players have climbed already. That means your matchups will mostly be against hard-stuck Golds, Plats, or low-Diamonds—all easier opponents. Abuse this timing. - Use Easy-to-Win Legends
Play Teros or other high-damage, low-effort legends. They’re strong, simple, and work extremely well at low-to-mid ELO. - Enjoy the Game
Many hard-stuck players make the game feel like torture. You can’t improve if you’re not enjoying the game. Take breaks, reset mentally, and don’t turn ranked into suffering.
Bonus Mental Tip: If playing ranked gives you anxiety, remember: hitting your peak once means you can do it again. Don’t let a few losses kill your momentum.
