After clocking over 15 hours in Biomutant, I’ve compiled a detailed list of core tips, strategies, and things I wish I had known earlier. From exploration and combat to character development and upgrades, this guide will give you a smart and efficient head start in the game. Let’s dive right in.

Exploration Tips

1. Biomutant is an Exploration-First Game
Most upgrade paths, gear, and character growth stem from venturing off the beaten path. Unlike typical open-world games, Biomutant doesn’t litter your map with markers—so if it looks interesting, it probably is.

2. Seek Out Resource Towers and Totems

  • Resource Towers = Crafting materials.
  • Side Poles = Psi Points.
  • Biohazard Towers = Bio Points.
  • Signposts = Fast travel flags (must be activated first—yes, by peeing on them).

3. Biohazard Zones = Bio Points
Resistances matter. Invest in Biohazard resistance first through gear and bio points. Entering these zones lets you:

  • Kill specific enemies for Bio Points.
  • Find green boxes that yield mutations and upgrade materials.
  • Reset your hazard counter by entering safe buildings.

4. Use Yellow Paint as Your Guide
Yellow markings signal interactable or climbable areas. If you see yellow—it’s probably explorable or destructible.

5. Aura Points Through Animals and Dialogue

  • Petting animals = Light Aura.
  • Killing them = Dark Aura.
  • Dialogue: Right = LightLeft = Dark.
  • Aura points unlock certain Psi powers, so pick intentionally.

6. Wall Jumping for Extra Height
You can latch to walls, jump off, and essentially triple jump. This is great for hard-to-reach loot or tricky terrain.

7. You Can Fast Travel Anytime
Even while drowning or trapped. Don’t wait—just warp.

Combat Tips

8. Only Fight One Faction at a Time
When factions fight each other, focus on one group to avoid being overwhelmed.

9. Unlock Two Wung-Fu Abilities ASAP
Super Wung-Fu (slow-motion power state) is triggered after using three different Wung-Fu moves in sequence—two are minimum. The combo bar doesn’t accept repeated moves.

10. Heal Anytime Without Animation
There’s no locked healing animation. Use healing items mid-air or mid-combat with no delay.

11. Dodge Small, Parry Big

  • Dodge small enemies, follow with air juggles.
  • Parry large enemies for stuns and huge counter damage windows.

12. Combat Gets Better With Time
At first, it feels shallow. But unlocking mutations, Psi abilities, and Wung-Fu attacks vastly expands your toolkit. Keep investing—it pays off.

Character Creation Tips

13. Breed Matters Less Than You Think
Your breed affects early stats and appearance. But leveling up lets you freely assign attributes, and there’s a vendor later who lets you change appearance. Choose what you like!

14. Pick Biohazard Resistance First
Unlocks access to early biozones full of loot and upgrade potential.

15. Class is the Most Important Starting Choice

  • Saboteur & Merc: Melee.
  • Deadeye & Commando: Ranged.
  • Psi-Freak: Mage-style builds.
  • Sentinel: Tank, but not highly recommended.

Classes come with locked perks, so this matters more than breed.

Upgrade & Progression Tips

16. Prioritize Luck Early
Leveling up gives you attribute points. Start by investing in Luck for higher critical hits and better loot drops. It’s a generalist’s win.

17. Don’t Forget Your Perks
It’s tempting to dump all upgrade points into flashy Wung-Fu abilities, but Perks are build-defining. Make time to explore these too.

18. Bio Points = Mutation Powers + Resistances
Use Bio Points to:

  • Unlock mutant abilities.
  • Boost hazard resistance. (Start with Biohazard!)

19. Psi Points = Psychic Powers (Aura-Locked)
Unlock through side poles and moral actions. Some abilities require a specific Light/Dark aura level.

Crafting & Gear Tips

20. Dismantle > Sell (Early On)
Early game economy is rough. Dismantling:

  • Returns crafting resources.
  • Helps upgrade and mod other gear.

Sell only high-value gear (3k+ greenleaf). Dismantle the rest.

21. Dismantle All Weapons for Mod Parts
You keep mod pieces. Even if you love a weapon, breaking it down could give you legendary attachments you wouldn’t find elsewhere.

22. Change Base Weapon Types to Save Resources
Instead of crafting from scratch, take an existing weapon and change its base type (rifle to shotgun, for example). This keeps all mods and saves materials.

23. Upgrade Materials at Balloons
You’ll find balloons in the world that let you upgrade a weapon’s material (increases stats). Costly, but worth it for favorites.

Closing Thoughts

Biomutant opens slowly but grows into a much deeper experience the more you unlock and explore. Make the most of the game’s creativity by investing early in resistances, exploring hazards, and crafting constantly. Stick with it—the systems all begin to synergize in powerful ways.

Play your way, build your mutant, and bring the world back—or burn it down.

Thanks for reading, and good luck out there.
