Welcome back to Neutral X, I’m your host Cosolix, and today I’m breaking down everything you need to know to play Axe in Brawlhalla. From move breakdowns to combos and general gameplay tips, this guide will help you dominate your opponents with Axe. Whether you’re new or looking to refine your gameplay, there’s something here for everyone.
1. Training Room Setup
- Item spawning: OFF
- Hurtboxes: ON
- Hitboxes: ON
- Stun: ON
- Show Damage: ON
- Damage Reset: ON
- Position Reset: ON
- Use a bot, keep it near center stage
2. Move Breakdown
- Sidelight: Horizontal punish tool. Slow and reactable (~14 frames), so only use when it’s guaranteed.
- Neutral Light: Fast, hits stacked. Excellent “get off me” tool, anti-air.
- Down Light: Quick anti-air, good when enemy is just above you. Extremely consistent.
- Neutral Air (Nair): Fast, high priority aerial. Used to spam safely, juggle, or apply pressure.
- Side Air (Sair): Main kill move. Slow startup (~18 frames), use with care. Jump Sair for edgeguarding.
- Down Air (Dair): Amazing downward tool. Used for follow-ups, ledge pressure, grounded combo starter.
- Recovery: Kill option and combo extension. Very slow; use carefully.
- Ground Pound: Not ideal offstage due to slow start. Can be used instantly on stage for pressure.
3. Essential Combos
- Sidelight > Neutral Air (True combo): Best damage and positioning.
- Sidelight > Down Light: Most consistent follow-up, but low reward.
- Sidelight > Down Air: True combo if close; high reward but less consistent.
- Sidelight > Nair > GC Down Light: Excellent 3-piece combo at low damage. Not true, but very tight (~2-3 dodge frames).
- Down Air (reverse) > Down Light: True combo on all decks. Excellent follow-up after grounded dare.
4. Kill Confirms
- Sidelight > Down Air > Recovery: Use when enemy has no dodge.
- Sidelight > Down Air > Ground Pound: If they DI downward.
- Sidelight > Down Air > Sig: Depending on legend, can kill early (e.g. Ragnir Neutral Sig).
5. General Gameplay Tips
- Axe rewards accuracy. Because many attacks are slow, you need to time and space well.
- Try to stay directly above or slightly away horizontally.
- Don’t spam Sair or Dair blindly; use Neutral Light and Down Light for tempo control.
- Use Nair frequently to apply aerial pressure.
- GC Ground Pound on stage can be an unexpected pressure tool.
6. Experimental Gameplay Observations
- Play around enemy dodges. Bait them out and punish.
- Read jump/DI directions after hitting Dair or Sidelight.
- In white health, 3-piece Sidelight > Nair > GC Down Light is very effective.
- Late game, go for safer follow-ups unless you’re confident in your reads.
7. Stance and Legend Selection
- Axe works well on low dex characters due to the strength and reward.
- Ragnir, Brin, Teros, and Rayman all have powerful Sig kits and solid stats.
- Dair > Down Light is confirmed true even on 2 DEX, making low DEX picks more viable.
8. Resource Tips
- For niche legend-specific combos (like Sig follow-ups), check out Brawlhalla Database or Combo Codex.
Closing Thoughts
- Master the flow: Learn which combo to go for based on your hit position.
- Understand dodge usage and baiting.
- Play smart, be precise, and take calculated risks.
- Watch your positioning and match pace.
