In Biomutant, weapons and armor function uniquely compared to most RPGs, offering players deep customization akin to Fallout 4. Whether you’re scavenging the wasteland or crafting from scratch, mastering equipment is key to your survival. Here’s everything you need to know.

Armor Basics

You have seven armor slots: Head, Face, Torso, Right Shoulder, Left Shoulder, Back, and Legs.

  • Face and Back armor cannot be modified or upgraded. You must find or purchase the best versions available.
  • Requirements: Some armor has level or attribute prerequisites. Better gear usually demands higher stats, shaping your attribute investment.

Armor Qualities

Armor has three core stats:

  1. Rarity: A reflection of the item’s overall quality.
  2. Quality: Determines base stat effectiveness.
  3. Material: Affects durability and stat bonuses.

You can increase rarity by upgrading quality and material, and by applying add-ons.

How to Modify Armor

  • Add-ons improve stats like crit chance, resistance, and armor.
  • Slot these at any time from the Craft tab in the menu.
  • For quality/material upgrades, locate a Gearware Upgrade Bench.

Tip: Save upgrade parts for high-end gear later in the game. Boosting loot chance (via the Luck attribute) improves your chances of finding rare gear.

Weapons 101

You can equip:

  • 1 melee weapon
  • 1 ranged weapon
  • With the right perks, dual-wield both types.

Weapons fall into two categories:

  1. Unique Weapons (e.g., Clonkfist, Myriad Boomerang): Cannot be modified.
  2. Modular Weapons: Built from components; customizable and upgradeable.

Weapon Categories

  • Melee: One-Handed, Two-Handed, Crush/Slash types.
  • Ranged: Guns, Rifles, Shotguns, Automatics.

Note: Weapon subtypes matter for perks. For example, some affect only non-automatic rifles.

Weapon Stats

Weapons share armor’s quality system:

  • Rarity
  • Quality
  • Material

Apply add-ons for bonuses like elemental damage or lifesteal. Many weapons require certain attributes or levels to equip.

Crafting Weapons

From the Craft tab, you can build:

  • Melee weapons: Needs a handle + base type.
  • Ranged weapons: Needs base + grip + muzzle.

Optional components:

  • Magazine, Stock, Scope (ranged only)

Parts are required for crafting or modifying. You can replace parts later, provided you have enough materials.

Weapon & Armor Upgrades

To upgrade an existing item:

  1. Visit a workbench.
  2. Choose to increase Quality or Material.

Upgrading boosts stats and can raise the item’s rarity to Ultimate.

Important: Some unique weapons can’t be altered, but many “Ultimate” modular weapons can be modified.

Optimization Tips

  • Prioritize Loot Chance early to acquire better crafting components.
  • Save rare parts for later weapons or armor.
  • Always dismantle low-quality gear for upgrade materials.
  • Store multiple gear loadouts using the outfit slots to quickly swap for resistances or combat styles.

Whether you’re min-maxing for damage or optimizing elemental resistance, Biomutant’s crafting system is incredibly robust. Understand its nuances, and you’ll be able to dominate every biome, threat, and warband the world throws at you.
