The character creator in Biomutant is one of the best parts of the game, and the most important decision you make is actually the last one: your class. Some classes come with unique perks or abilities that significantly shape how you’ll experience the game. This guide breaks down every class, recommends the best breed for each, and helps you choose the right one for your playstyle.

Ranged Classes

1. Dead-Eye
Playstyle: Long-range marksman
Starting Perk: Perfect Reload (next magazine does +20% damage after a timed reload)
Notable Perks: Crackshot (rifle damage +20%), Sniper (critical damage +10%), Sharpshooter (two-handed guns deal double damage)
Best Breed: Primal or Murgel (extra crit chance, good for ranged builds)
Why Pick Dead-Eye: Great all-rounder for ranged players. Non-auto rifles become powerful with double-damage perks, making it a very strong class.

2. Commando
Playstyle: Versatile ranged and support melee
Starting Perk: Fury (ranged damage +10%)
Notable Perks: Code Shot (shotgun damage), Brutality (critical damage +10%), Stimulus (armor +20% at low HP), Adrenaline (melee attack speed +20%)
Best Breed: Primal or Murgel
Why Pick Commando: Excellent for those who want flexibility and plan to mix ranged and melee. Also great for shotgun users.

Psi and Ability-Based Class

3. Psi-Freak
Playstyle: Mage-like caster, psi-abilities specialist
Starting Perks: Spark Ball (unique electric psi ability), Megamind (key regen +20%)
Notable Perks: Psi Spike (psi damage +10%), Brain Drain (power damage heals for 20%), Mind Meld (psi crit chance increase)
Best Breed: Fip or Rex (high intellect breeds)
Why Pick Psi-Freak: Only class that gives access to the Spark Ball ability. A must-pick for psi-focused builds.

Melee Classes

4. Saboteur
Playstyle: Agile melee rogue
Starting Perks: Twin Silver Grip (dual wield melee), Hypergenetic (dodge energy cost -20%)
Notable Perks: Reflexes (10% ranged miss chance), Agile (dodge distance +20%), Evasive (armor boost while dodging), Moving Target (combat movement speed +5%)
Best Breed: Dunden or Hyla (strength and vitality focused)
Why Pick Saboteur: Ideal for hit-and-run melee tactics, but flexible enough to support ranged too.

5. Mercenary (Pre-Order Bonus)
Playstyle: High-damage melee warrior
Starting Perks: Fury (melee damage +10%), Twin Silver Grip
Notable Perks: Invincibility (armor +20% at full HP), Brutality (melee crit damage +10%), Megamind
Best Breed: Dunden or Hyla
Why Pick Mercenary: The most melee-focused class with strong offensive perks. Best pick if you plan to focus on damage output through melee.

Tank/Support Class

6. Sentinel
Playstyle: Tanky, defense-oriented
Starting Perk: Toughness (base armor +10%)
Notable Perks: Ricochet (10% chance to reflect ranged damage), Invincibility, Medic (healing items +10%), Knock (dodge knocks enemies down)
Best Breed: Rex or Hyla
Why Pick Sentinel: Decent for players worried about survivability, but outclassed in raw power by other classes. Mostly suited for unarmed builds or high-difficulty runs.

Final Thoughts

Every class can be viable depending on your gear and playstyle, but some offer strong advantages from the get-go. For ranged, Dead-Eye is unmatched. Psi-Freak is a must if you love abilities. For melee fans, go with Mercenary if available or Saboteur for mobility. Sentinel, while not terrible, is more of a niche pick.
