Welcome to our beginner’s guide for A Plague Tale: Requiem! Whether you’re returning from Innocence or diving in for the first time, these essential tips will help you adapt quickly, survive longer, and get the most out of this stunning stealth-action adventure.
1. Explore Thoroughly
While Requiem is a linear experience, there are frequent opportunities for exploration. Look for side paths, hidden corners, locked rooms, and optional detours. These often contain rare resources, Collectibles, or tools to help you upgrade Amicia’s gear.
2. Prioritize Tools and Large Chests
Crafting upgrades for Amicia’s equipment requires both parts and tools. Parts are common, but tools are not. Keep your eyes peeled for special chests, often found behind mini-puzzles or locked doors. These chests frequently contain the valuable tools needed for progression.
3. Upgrade Amicia’s Pockets Early
Before investing in weapons, upgrade Amicia’s pockets. Inventory space is limited at first, and resource management becomes critical as you progress. More carrying capacity means less time juggling items.
4. Boost Your Crossbow Speed
Once you unlock the crossbow, make it a priority to upgrade its reload speed. It becomes a staple weapon against armored foes and can save your life in tight encounters.
5. Dealing with Armored Enemies
Some enemies wear helmets or armor that render your sling ineffective. The crossbow can bypass armor entirely. Aim for unprotected areas like the chest. For brutes, knock off chest armor with tar or bolts, then finish with a well-placed shot.
6. Don’t Waste Knives
Knives are powerful but limited. They can be used to stealth kill or to open special locked workbenches. Always consider whether it’s worth using one or if another option is available.
7. Counter and Run
Amicia is more capable than ever. She can counter enemies with her sling if you time the prompt right. This dazes the enemy briefly. Take the chance to either flee and hide or eliminate them if they’re unarmored.
8. Re-Enter Stealth After Detection
Unlike the first game, Requiem lets you hide again after being spotted. Run until you break line of sight and find a hiding spot. Enemies will stay more alert, but this mechanic gives you a second chance.
9. Use Tar Wisely
Tar isn’t just for lighting up dark areas. You can use it to distract or slow enemies. Toss it on the ground to hinder pursuers or ignite an enemy’s torch to blind and disorient them.
10. Weaponize the Rats
Use your environment to turn rat swarms against your enemies. Extinguish torches, snuff braziers, and light new sources strategically to direct rat movement. Later in the game, Hugo gains control of rats—a mechanic best discovered firsthand.
Mastering these basics early will make your journey through A Plague Tale: Requiem far smoother and more rewarding. Stay stealthy, stay prepared, and don’t forget to enjoy the beautifully grim world that Asobo Studio has crafted.
Happy surviving!
