If you don’t have a Panzer Vulpaphyla yet, you’re missing out on one of the most essential companions in Warframe. This guide breaks down why the Panzer is so powerful, how to reliably get one, how to build it for optimal performance, and what makes it shine above all other companions.

Why You Want a Panzer Vulpaphyla

The Panzer Vulpaphyla isn’t just any pet — it’s:

  • viral primer (via Viral Quills)
  • Immortal (thanks to Devolution)
  • Capable of saving your life (through Martyr Symbiosis)

It boosts your damage, survives endlessly, and contributes passively without requiring micromanagement.

Volpaphyla Types

There are three types of Vulpaphylas:

  1. Panzer – Best for combat thanks to Viral Quills
  2. Crescent – Specialized, less useful
  3. Sly – Most common, but lacks viral synergy

To get a Panzer or Crescent, you’ll need pheromones and some luck. Use pheromones during Fass phase to spawn a Panzer (during Vome, Crescent appears).

How to Catch a Panzer Vulpaphyla

  1. Preparation:
    • Buy pheromonestranq rifle, and echolure from Son in the Necralisk.
  2. Locate the Boop Point:
    • Head into Cambion Drift and find the vulpaphyla trail icon on the map.
  3. Start the Hunt:
    • Use the pheromones and echolure during Fass phase.
    • After the minigame, the vulpaphyla spawns.
  4. Weaken It (Very Important):
    • If you capture it, you only get a tag, not the pet.
    • To weaken it, let enemies down it by luring them while using an invisibility frame like Ash.
  5. Interact Quickly:
    • Once the vulpaphyla is downed by enemies, interact to claim a weakened vulpaphyla.

You can get lucky and find weakened vulpaphylas randomly during bounties, but it’s inconsistent. For best results, follow the full hunting process.

Building Your Panzer

Once you’ve claimed a weakened Panzer:

  1. Select a Mutagen and Antigen:
    • These affect the pet’s visuals and offer minor stat tweaks. Choose what looks good to you.
  2. Craft and Raise Your Panzer:
    • Gather Sun Tokensstanding, and other resources from Cambion Drift.
    • Finish crafting, level it up to 30.
  3. Gilding:
    • Return to Son to Gild your Panzer.
    • Gilding improves stats and lets you name it — think of it as Forma for pets.

Must-Have Mods

Core Mods:

  • Viral Quills (auto-equipped with Panzer): Turns the Panzer into a viral status machine
  • Devolution (also comes free with Panzer): Pet revives after 30 seconds as a larva
  • Martyr Symbiosis: Panzer dies instead of you, heals 40% of your HP, grants invulnerability
  • Synth Deconstruct + Synth Fiber: Easy to get from Fortuna; synergize well with frame energy systems
  • Animal Instinct + Fetch: Utility for loot radar and vacuum

Optional/Flavor Mods:

  • Link Health / Link Armor: Improves tankiness in lower-level content
  • Tech Assault: 30% chance to avoid lethal damage — more survivability

Why the Panzer Dominates

Devolution ensures the pet never dies permanently — it returns after 30 seconds. And during larva form, Viral Quills still trigger, so you never lose uptime.

Viral Quills makes the Panzer a passive viral status primer, increasing the damage enemies take. Viral is widely considered the strongest damage multiplier status in Warframe.

Martyr Symbiosis is a literal life saver, absorbing a death blow and giving you a second chance with bonus healing and invulnerability. And since the Panzer always comes back, it can trigger again.

Additional Tips

  • Mutagen/Antigen Choice: No meta, choose for looks.
  • Pet Downing: You must let enemies weaken it, NOT capture it.
  • Fishing & Scavenging: Required for crafting mutagens and antigens, but easy to farm.

Final Thoughts

The Panzer Vulpaphyla isn’t just a pet — it’s a tactical asset. From enhancing your DPS to saving your skin at level cap, its utility is unmatched. With its automatic viral application, respawn capability, and death-saving mod synergy, it’s the gold standard for any serious Warframe player.

Get it. Build it. Gild it. And let it carry you.

Stay safe out there, Tenno — and good luck hunting.
