Looking to deck out your party in the best gear Sea of Stars has to offer? Whether you’re preparing for the final stretch of the game or exploring post-game content, having top-tier armor makes a world of difference. In this guide, we’ll go over how to obtain the best armor pieces for every main character—including where to go, what puzzles or quests you’ll need to complete, and what to expect from each area. Let’s break it down character by character.
Eclipse Armor (Valere & Zale)
There are two Eclipse Armors, and both are earned through specific late-game side quests and exploration.
First Eclipse Armor – Wraith Island Questline:
- You’ll unlock this after progressing to a side quest where you release the Duke.
- Head to the northeast island near Wraith Island and find Remya’s Secret Passage.
- Inside is a puzzle room. There are reports of it being randomized, but for most, the layout seems static.
- If it doesn’t work for you, go to the Flooded Graveyard (northwest of the campfire), enter the cave, and look above the chest for the pattern clue.
- Screenshot the wall pattern and return to the puzzle room to replicate it.
- Solve the puzzle to access a secret path. Open the chest to get Rem’s Journal.
- Return the journal to the Duke. He’ll give you the Yellow Flame.
- Give this to the Fairman, who takes you to a new area.
- Defeat Romaya again—this battle’s tougher, but familiar. Clear her adds first.
- Victory earns you the Aventry Locket. Give it to the Duke to receive Duke Aventry’s Key.
- Use the key in the Duke’s crypt (left of where he’s standing) to unlock a coffin. Inside: Eclipse Armor and the Aventry Crest.
Second Eclipse Armor – Solstice Shrine:
- This one is found in a Solstice Shrine involving a platform-arrow puzzle.
- Complete the shrine and grab the chest at the end for the second Eclipse Armor.
- You now have one for Valere and one for Zale.
Cosmic Cape (Seraï & Resh’an)
This armor is shared between Seraï and Resh’an and is locked behind a tech-savvy side quest in Repine.
Here’s how to get it:
- Enter Repine and look for a locked room beside the shop that says a cipher is required.
- You’ll need to collect four data strips scattered across different zones:
- Data Strip 1 – Near the Repine entrance, in a tucked-away chest just below your starting location.
- Data Strip 2 – In Cerulean Reservoir. Swim all the way to the back and locate a hidden chest.
- Data Strip 3 – Found inside a Speedball Network station, far to the left.
- Data Strip 4 – Inside a puzzle in the Fleshmancer’s Lair. Use eyeballs to open a path, then carefully roll the second eyeball through spike traps to reach the final chest.
- After gathering all four, return to Seraï’s home and give them to Cedric, who crafts the cipher.
- Use the cipher to open the locked door in Repine.
- Inside are two chests, one of which contains the Cosmic Cape.
Note: You can only get one Cosmic Cape per playthrough. To equip both Seraï and Resh’an with one, you’ll need to enter New Game+, where the same chest will give you a second.
BEAST’s Best Armor
This armor is tied to BEAST’s storyline and becomes available very late in the game, likely after your first playthrough or before the final boss.
Here’s what to do:
- Head to Brisk after progressing far enough in the story (just before the Fleshmancer battle or after the first ending).
- Visit the arena near the cataclysm impact site from earlier in the game.
- Complete the arena challenges: expect three combat rounds, ending with a massive giant crab boss.
- Defeat it, and BEAST’s best armor will be yours.
Garl’s Best Armor
Without spoiling the story, Garl’s best gear comes to him automatically at a specific point in the game. You won’t need to search for it or complete any special conditions. When the moment comes, he’ll have both his best weapon and best armor equipped by default.
Closing Tips
- Be sure to equip any Relics that increase your item-finding efficiency or help you in boss battles.
- Don’t be afraid to revisit old zones—many puzzles and side quests only unlock later.
- If you’re aiming for optimal builds and ready for post-game challenges, these armor sets are must-haves.
That wraps up the guide! Hopefully this helps you prepare your team for whatever challenges lie ahead in Sea of Stars. If you’ve found other pieces of powerful gear or unique methods to earn them, be sure to share them with the community!
