While most characters in Vampire Survivors come with clear achievement requirements—like surviving with a certain weapon, reaching level milestones, or defeating bosses—there are three elusive characters that stand apart. These secret characters don’t have achievements tied to them, and if you don’t know what to look for, you might never discover them on your own.

Here’s how to unlock X-DashRed Death, and MissingNo—and what makes them each unique.

1. X-Dash: The Lucky Ghost

How to Unlock:

  • On the main title screen, type the following code:
    x-x1viiq
  • If done correctly, you’ll hear a small chime.
  • Go to the character selection screen and you’ll now see X-Dash available for free.

About X-Dash:

  • He starts with Ebony Wings, and has very poor base stats in almost every category—low health, damage, area, duration, and movement speed.
  • His only real strength? Very high Luck, which makes him viable in gold farming builds or if you enjoy a chaotic challenge.
  • Think of X-Dash as the character you pick if you want unpredictability—or bragging rights.

2. Red Death: The Reaper Himself

How to Unlock:

  • You must defeat the Reaper who appears at the 30-minute mark.
  • There’s no achievement or notification—you’ll simply see Red Death become available for purchase on the character select screen after the kill.
  • A detailed strategy for defeating the Reaper is essential—refer to dedicated guides or videos if needed.

About Red Death:

  • Red Death is incredibly strong. Compared to a baseline character like Poppea:
    • Much higher health (332 vs. 130)
    • Significantly faster movement speed
    • Starts with Death Spiral, a powerful evolved weapon
  • Important Note: You cannot evolve a second Axe into another Death Spiral when playing Red Death—you’re limited to one.
  • He’s a top-tier character and a fan favorite for fast and powerful clears.

3. MissingNo: The Glitchy Legacy

How to Unlock:

  • Historically, MissingNo was the reward for killing the Reaper before Red Death was implemented.
  • In current versions of the game, MissingNo can only be unlocked via manual modification of the game files.
  • There’s no official or in-game method to unlock MissingNo anymore.
  • If you’re curious, refer to Dex’s written guide, which explains the process in detail. The video referencing this includes both a link and full text instructions in the description.

About MissingNo:

  • This character has randomized stats that change every time you visit the character selection screen.
  • The numbers often fluctuate wildly, making him unpredictable but entertaining.
  • As a legacy and unofficial character, MissingNo is more of an easter egg than a practical choice.

Closing Thoughts

While most characters in Vampire Survivors are straightforward to unlock with persistence and progression, these three secret entries add a fun layer of mystery and challenge.

  • X-Dash is a simple code away.
  • Red Death rewards your mastery of the game’s toughest boss.
  • MissingNo takes you into experimental territory—perfect for modders or curious veterans.

No matter your playstyle, unlocking all three is a rite of passage for completionists and enthusiasts alike.

And remember: this is Nate—also known as Nathan—but never, ever Daniel. Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one.
