Arcane Studios’ Deathloop is stylish, chaotic, and unlike most games you’ve played before. It’s a murder-puzzle where exploration, timing, and creativity matter just as much as your aim. While Deathloop does explain many of its mechanics, it leaves some important systems and strategies for players to uncover on their own. Whether you’re just starting out or halfway through, these ten advanced tips will help you survive longer, fight smarter, and break the loop with flair.

1. The Best Silenced Gun in the Game Is Hiding in Plain Sight

If you’re a stealth lover, make your way to Igor’s lab at The Complex. Using the Shift slab (Blink from Dishonored), you can quickly teleport through the skylight protected by security lasers. Inside, you’ll find a silenced Limp-10, one of the best stealth weapons in the game. This gun can carry you through entire missions if you play smart. Infuse it with 8,000 Residuum to keep it permanently—well worth the cost.

Tip: You don’t need Shift to get it, but hitting the lasers alerts everyone. Teleporting in avoids all the hassle.

2. Shift Slab = Freedom and Survival

Speaking of Shift, it’s the best first slab to go after. You get it from Charlie Montague, and it drastically expands your mobility and stealth potential. Not only does Shift let you reach hidden rooftops and evade fights, but it’s also a lifesaver in PvP invasions against Julianna. It’s fast, quiet, and indispensable. If you only use one slab throughout your playthrough, make it this one.

3. Hidden Mechanics That Give You the Edge

The game doesn’t tell you this, but:

  • You can grab enemies over waist-high walls.
  • You can perform aerial assassinations from above.
  • Enemies drinking won’t notice you—you can sneak right up and take them out.
  • If the game won’t let you assassinate an awkwardly positioned target, just kick them—it works.

These little tricks are rarely explained but add a lot of flavor and flexibility to your encounters.

4. Hack Turrets From Cover (Even If You Can’t See Them)

Turrets are nasty when they’re hostile—and game changers when they’re yours. The game teaches you how to hack, but here’s the advanced move: start a hack, then duck behind cover while still holding the button. The hack continues even without line of sight. It doesn’t always work at long distances, but for close-to-mid range, it’s a stealthy way to flip defenses to your advantage.

Eventually, you’ll find a perk that increases hacking range, but until then, this trick can save your life.

5. Don’t Explore Too Early – Wait for Infusion

The first hour or two of Deathloop acts as a semi-linear prologue. You can explore, but there’s little point because you can’t keep anything you find until you unlock Infusion. Weapons, trinkets, even slabs won’t stick until then. Our advice? Follow the objectives until you unlock Infusion—then go wild. This avoids wasted time and lets you bank useful gear from that point on.

6. There’s No Autosave – Play Accordingly

You only save progress when you exit a mission with an infused item. If the game crashes (which it still can, especially on PS5 or PC), all progress in that run is lost. Want to avoid heartbreak? Focus on one goal at a time—get a weapon or slab, then leave. Infuse it immediately, and only then continue exploring. Being greedy often means losing everything when a crash hits.

7. Turrets Are MVPs – Use Them Smartly

Turrets become brutally effective if placed behind doors or narrow passages. The AI struggles with spatial logic, so funneling enemies into kill zones with a turret behind cover will devastate entire squads. Even Visionaries can be taken out this way if you know their paths. Just remember: don’t stand in their line of fire yourself. Friendly fire is a thing.

8. Don’t Stand and Fight – Hit and Run Works Wonders

In large firefights, you’ll die fast, especially early on. Guards in Blackreef may not be geniuses, but there are a lot of them. If you’re spotted, kill the witness, then run. Enemies lose track of you fast, and once they shift patrols, you can circle back or sneak away. Stealth is stronger than gunfights in most cases, and the alert system is forgiving if you stay mobile.

9. Unlocking Delivery Machines Is a Game-Changer

Those mysterious machines that require codes? They’re delivery booths, and they let you drop tools like turrets or Nullifiers into later missions. The code is found in Fia’s hideout at Fristad Rock, near a broken machine in a back room.

Once discovered, take a screenshot—it’s not saved in your journal until after you use the code. These machines let you plan runs in advance by sending:

  • Batteries
  • Crank wheels (great for secret doors)
  • Field Nullifiers (disrupt slabs)
  • Turrets

This gives you a head start in tricky regions, especially when going after well-defended Visionaries.

10. PC Performance Fixes (For Now)

If you’re playing on PC, some issues persist:

  • To fix crosshair offset, go to Settings > HUD > Crosshair Offset and turn it off.
  • Lower Shadow Detail to improve framerate significantly.
  • VSync off doesn’t eliminate the 120 FPS cap, and stuttering may still occur.
  • For AMD users, FidelityFX Super Resolution is helpful.
  • Nvidia players currently lack upscaling options.

Use RivaTuner cautiously if attempting frame smoothing. Stability has improved post-launch, but it’s not perfect.

Final Thoughts: Play Smart, Play Sneaky, Play Again

Deathloop is a puzzle masquerading as a shooter, and the more you lean into its systems—timing, stealth, exploration—the more satisfying it becomes. These tips are just the beginning. With the right weapons, smart slab usage, and a little patience, you’ll be breaking the loop in style. And if you discover something brilliant, share it—because this is one game where shared knowledge makes the whole experience better.

Stay sharp. Stay sneaky. See you on the other side of the loop.
