When you boot up Star Wars Battlefront 2, it’s easy to get tunnel vision for heroes, reinforcements, and vehicles—but the truth is, your match starts and ends with the base infantry classes. If you’re not making the most of your Assault, Heavy, Officer, or Specialist, you’re missing a huge part of the game’s depth and strategy.

This guide reveals 10 under-the-radar infantry secrets that most players don’t know—even after years of play. Whether you’re a trooper main or just grinding points to earn your hero, these tips will change how you play the game from the ground up.

1. Ion Disruptor = Melee Powerhouse

Normally, infantry melee damage is low—50 from the front, 65 from the back. But when holding the Ion Disruptor(found on maps like Naboo, Endor, and Hoth), your melee becomes lethal. You can one-shot nearly any infantry class.

While the disruptor is intended for damaging vehicles, you can use it to clean house in close quarters. Just don’t be that teammate who hoards the objective item and refuses to fire it. But if you’re surrounded while holding it? Melee your way out.

2. Crouch to Reduce Weapon Spread

Like most shooters, crouching while firing in Battlefront 2 dramatically reduces your weapon spread—especially with automatic weapons like those used by the Heavy. Combine crouching with recoil-reducing attachments for laser-precise shots.

It does reduce mobility, so use it in short bursts: crouch, shoot accurately, move to cover.

3. Default Abilities Last Longer Than Upgrades

Abilities like Vanguard (Assault), Infiltration (Specialist), and Sentry (Heavy) all last longer in their default versionsthan their upgraded card versions. Upgrades often improve power but cut duration.

If you value long uptime or want that extended sprint speed, don’t upgrade just yet. Test the base ability first—you might be surprised how much longer it lasts.

4. Marksman Star Card = Infinite Fire (If You Can Aim)

Marksman resets your blaster heat when you land headshot kills—and makes it take longer to overheat after that. If you’re accurate, you can chain shots indefinitely.

Great for:

  • Assault and Officer (easy-to-use blasters)
  • Specialist (sniper headshots)

Practice lining up heads, and you’ll almost never need to cool down.

5. Expert Weapons Handling Works on More Than Primaries

This underrated card extends your yellow-bar bonus after overheating. Hit the yellow bar on a cooldown and you can fire endlessly for a short time.

What the game won’t tell you: it also works on Flash Pistol (Assault) and Stinger Pistol (Specialist). Use this for extended pressure with these secondary weapons—especially useful against heroes or in tight fights.

6. Smart Ion Grenade = Unexpected Direct Damage

Most assume the Smart Ion Grenade is only useful against shields, turrets, and vehicles. But it also explodes on enemy infantry, dealing up to 90 direct damage.

Use it like a more reliable impact grenade. It can instantly destroy shields and follow up with blaster fire to finish targets.

7. Flash Pistol = Infinite Blindness + Hero Counter

The Flash Pistol is a hidden gem with two big secrets:

  1. Stacking Flash Effect – There’s no immunity timer, so you can continuously blind enemies as long as you’re firing. Each shot re-blinds them.
  2. Bypasses Hero Blocks – Deals minor (5) damage even if a saber hero is blocking. This interrupts health regen and forces them to move.

Surprisingly, it’s the only weapon left with the original flash effect (white screen). Start using this as a pressure tool in large modes.

8. Turret Detonation Is a Guaranteed Kill

The Officer and Heavy turrets can lock on and auto-fire, sure. But did you know that detonating them deals 150 damagein an area?

That’s an instant kill on most infantry classes and leaves Heavies nearly dead. Place a turret and manually explode it when an enemy closes in—it’s a reliable and often overlooked offense tactic.

9. Homing Shot Can Penetrate Shields (Sort Of)

The Homing Shot (Officer card) is widely considered useless. But there’s one bizarre quirk: it can penetrate the Specialist’s personal shield.

It won’t go through other shields (Leia’s, Officer’s, Iden’s, Droidika’s), which makes this likely a bug—but it works. It gives the Homing Shot an actual, if niche, use as a counter to shielded snipers.

10. Flash Pistol: The Final Underrated Secret Weapon

Let’s recap this little blaster:

  • Stacks flash endlessly.
  • Hits through saber blocks.
  • Prevents health regen.
  • Works with Expert Weapons Handling to fire longer.

What started as a forgettable gadget now shines as a hero-suppressing utility tool, especially in Supremacy and Galactic Assault. If you’ve overlooked it—time to give it a real shot.

If you’ve only been using infantry to grind points until your hero spawns, it’s time to rethink your approach. These secrets can help you dominate matches before you ever spend a single battle point.
