Welcome—it’s Alex, and if you’ve just dropped into the beautiful chaos of Yara and are already itching to blow everything sky-high, then you’re in the right place. Far Cry 6 doesn’t waste time letting you loose, and neither should you. In this guide, we’ll walk through how to grab some of the most devastating early-game weapons, along with a tank you can permanently unlock within your first hour of gameplay—yes, a tank. Let’s get your version of Dani Rojas strapped and unstoppable.
1. The Fire-Breathing Shotgun – A Must-Grab From the Start Right at the beginning on the island of Quito, you’ll want to head to the southeast coast, specifically Corto Cay. Here stands a lighthouse, and atop it, reachable with your grappling gear, lies a beautifully destructive shotgun in a decorative chest. This thing is no joke—it comes loaded with incendiary shells (rank 4!), a red dot sight, and the “Fresh Clip” mod that boosts damage on the first shot after every reload.
This shotgun doesn’t just hit—it spreads fire wildly, combining with Far Cry’s chaos-loving fire propagation system to make entire zones erupt in flames. To protect yourself from your own inferno, equip gear like the Fuego Mitts, which come with a flame-retardant passive that extinguishes fire on your character automatically. Also worth noting: the shotgun’s fire can ignite poisonous red gas clouds—whether emitted by enemies or triggered by your own gear—adding to its chaos potential.
2. The Ultimate Sniper Rifle for Chips-and-Shooting Range If you like playing sniper from so far away that you could snack mid-battle, this is your dream weapon. Once you’re off the starting island and have free access to Yara, head to the northeastern Barrio region. On its northern coastline is a massive fort. Now, flying here early may trigger anti-aircraft retaliation, so consider going by boat or carefully by road.
No need to fight anyone. Approach the fort’s rear and find a way onto a nearby watchtower, from which you can grapple to the top of a lighthouse. Inside is a custom sniper rifle featuring:
- Maxed-out velocity (near-zero bullet drop)
- Armor-piercing rounds
- Advanced 10x scope
- Large muzzle brake (reduced flash)
- Extended magazine
- Fresh Clip mod for extra opening shot damage
Combined with gear like the Marksman Goggles (found just below the lighthouse in a nearby chest), which grant the “Thrifty Shooter” perk to refund ammo on headshots, this rifle becomes a long-distance monster. It’ll kill as far as the game can render. The only thing stopping you is the curvature of the Earth—and Far Cry doesn’t account for that.
3. Early-Game Tank Heist – Yes, You Can Want to roll around in a tank within the first 30 minutes? You can. Head back to the Quito region and go northwest from your first home base. There you’ll find the FND Tank Depot in Prado Meadows. The tank may spawn in one of a few areas inside the base, so do a careful recon.
Once you’ve commandeered the tank, drive it along the main road to the Cabeza Fuel Depot. You’ll need to have captured this location or use the tank to do so. Once inside the blue cones at the depot, the tank becomes permanently unlockable from all vehicle pickup points.
Just be careful. Terrain can still be your biggest enemy—getting a tank stuck on a slope is somehow more shameful than dying to a wild rooster. Treat your tank well. Maybe name it something endearing. Like Jimmy Dean.
4. Grenade Launcher of Flaming Doom Few weapons let you wipe out an entire outpost faster than this six-shot incendiary grenade launcher. Located in the steel plant in Aguas Lindas (northwest Yara), the weapon is locked in a side room that requires a key. Explore the main building to find it.
What makes it shine:
- Maxed damage stat
- Incendiary grenades
- “Nimble Shooter” mod for faster aiming
- “Reload All” mod that refreshes all weapons when you reload this one
Ammo can be a limiting factor here, so consider upgrading your loadout with the Rocketeer pocket mod on your Supremo backpack for more explosive stock. You can also consume a meal buff (if you’ve built the cantina at your camp) to boost ammo reserves. Don’t forget your vehicle’s trunk also serves as an ammo resupply cache.
5. Building the Perfect Custom Headshot Rifle While unique weapons are tempting, a carefully modded custom rifle can outshine them all—if you invest in it. Starting with a blank Tier 4 assault rifle, you can turn it into a versatile beast:
- Armor-piercing rounds for helmeted enemies and added velocity
- Suppressor to stay quiet
- Dual-scope setup for long and short-range adaptability
- Supremo synergy: “Headshot Supremo” mod (gives charge for headshots) + “Aiming Damage” mod
- On your Supremo: add the “Sharpshooter” mod to further boost headshot charge gain
The result? Headshot, headshot, fire the Supremo. Headshot again. Fire it again. Rinse. Repeat. It’s a satisfying loop of precision and explosions. You can use your ultimate multiple times per encounter, which is usually unheard of.
