One of the more creative and rewarding achievements in BioShock Infinite is the “Combination Shock” achievement, worth a solid 50 Gamer Score. This trophy is unlocked by performing all eight unique Vigor combinations on enemies. While it’s not necessarily tied to the main progression, it’s a satisfying side objective that showcases the layered combat design Irrational Games built into the Vigor system.
This guide walks you through exactly when and how to unlock the final Vigor needed to complete the set and outlines every combo required to earn this achievement.
When to Unlock the Final Vigor
Eventually, during the main story, you’ll encounter a major fight in front of a large statue of Comstock, with two Tesla coil turrets on either side of the area. After completing this section, Elizabeth will warn you about an upcoming point-of-no-return, telling you: “Once we go through those turnstiles, we can’t come back.”
At this moment, say yes to checking out the bookstore—this opens up access to an important collectible. Inside the bookstore’s lower level, you’ll find a voxophone on a couch. When you listen to it, a character mentions a secret button hidden in the Salty Oyster Bar.
Now backtrack to the Salty Oyster Bar (you will have passed it earlier). Behind the bar itself, you’ll find the button—pressing it reveals a hidden room. Inside is your eighth and final Vigor, allowing you to perform all the required combinations.
Important Notes Before You Begin
- All combinations must be performed on enemies. Doing them in an empty room doesn’t count.
- Ensure you have sufficient Salts available—some combos can be resource-heavy.
- You can find salts scattered through the environment or purchase them at vending machines.
The 8 Required Vigor Combinations
Here are the exact pairings you’ll need to perform for the achievement, listed with a quick breakdown of how to execute each one:
- Possession + Shock Jockey
Possess an enemy (they’ll become your ally), then cast Shock Jockey on them. The electricity often chains to nearby enemies. - Possession + Devil’s Kiss
Possess a human enemy, then follow up with a fire grenade using Devil’s Kiss while they’re still alive. - Devil’s Kiss + Charge
Throw a fire grenade with Devil’s Kiss to ignite the target, then use Charge to slam into them mid-burn. - Murder of Crows + Devil’s Kiss
Send out a murder of crows to stun and distract enemies, then toss a Devil’s Kiss grenade into the chaos. - Murder of Crows + Shock Jockey
Similar to the previous, but replace Devil’s Kiss with Shock Jockey to electrify stunned targets. - Bucking Bronco + Devil’s Kiss
Use Bucking Bronco to launch enemies into the air, then hit them midair with a fire grenade. - Bucking Bronco + Charge
Send enemies airborne with Bucking Bronco, then Charge into them while they’re floating. - Undertow + Shock Jockey
Use Undertow to pull or splash an enemy onto the ground, then electrify them while they’re down with Shock Jockey.
Achievement Unlocked – ‘Combination Shock’
Once you’ve performed all eight combinations on enemies during combat, the achievement will unlock immediately. This is one of the more satisfying 50G achievements, not just because of its difficulty, but because it shows how imaginative the Vigor system can be when pushed to its limits.
If you’re unsure whether a combo registered, try using it in a new combat encounter. And don’t worry too much about memorizing every pair—the combinations are intuitive and feel natural once you start experimenting.
Final Tips
- It’s easiest to chase this achievement in mid-to-late game, when you have access to all Vigors.
- You don’t need to perform all combos in one battle—but doing them in quick succession helps keep track.
- Look for tightly packed enemy groups to maximize effectiveness and minimize salt consumption.
Now that you’re armed with knowledge, go out there and make some electrifying (and explosive) combos. Happy hunting—and enjoy watching Columbia burn, zap, and explode in style.
