If you’re chasing that Platinum trophy or simply want to dive deeper into Alan Wake 2’s layered narrative, collecting all the writer’s journals, weapons, maps, and unique environmental items is a must. This guide will walk you through all collectibles in Alan’s chapters, beginning with Initiation 4: We Sing and ending with Return 8: Deerfest. Follow this detailed breakdown to ensure you don’t miss a single thing.

Initiation 4: We Sing

  • Automatic Weapon Pickup: The first item is a weapon acquired automatically as part of the story. This unlocks a trophy and cannot be missed.
  • Ringing Pay Phone & TV: After you hear a ringing pay phone, you can answer it first or leave it for later — either way, your goal is to move past it to find a television. This triggers a Writer’s Journal: The Dark Presence. Make sure you don’t skip this TV moment.

Initiation 5: Room 665

  • Double-Barrel Shotgun: Head toward the Mirror Peak sign on the rooftop before entering the hotel. You’ll need to use light shifting to alter the environment. Shift, enter the scene, then shift again to reveal and collect the shotgun.
  • Hotel Map: Once inside the Oceanview Hotel (rooftop access), go to the bottom floor and check behind the front desk. The hotel map is pinned here.
  • Room 101 Key and Access:
    • Go to the ballroom on the second floor, then locate the break room near the coffee station. Inside, grab the key for Room 101.
    • To reach Room 101, head to Room 225, enter the bathroom there, and you’ll find yourself magically transitioned to the first floor.
    • Enter Room 101 at the hall’s end and interact with the TV in the right corner. This gives you another Writer’s Journal: Visions.

Initiation 6

  • No collectibles in this chapter.

Initiation 7: Math

  • Writer’s Journal: The Drowning Writer
    • In the talk show studio cafeteria, head into the janitor’s room through the basement.
    • Use light shifting to change the environment and gain access to the lower area.
    • Proceed into the red light room and perform another light shift. On the table, you’ll find a shoebox.
    • Open it and collect the photograph inside. This doesn’t give you the journal immediately — it unlocks at the end of the chapter.
    • Finish the chapter, and once you see the “Behind the Masks” trophy, the Writer’s Journal will also unlock.

Initiation 8: Zane’s Film

  • Cinema Map: Head to the Poet Cinema (leave the hotel area and go to the other side of the map). Buy your movie ticket, then go behind the lobby counter to pick up the map.
  • Writer’s Journal: Stop Writing:
    • After getting the map, exit the staff-only area, turn left, and enter the break room.
    • You’ll find the next journal collectible here just by entering the room.
  • Final Writer’s Journal (Loop Puzzle):
    • Continue through the chapter, using scene changes until you reach the Grand Master scene.
    • Activate it in the theater hall, and a blue door will appear on-screen.
    • Enter it to start a loop sequence. On the third loop, look for a TV set in a room with a new door.
    • Enter the closet room, and wait for the trophy to pop. Don’t leave until it does. This is your final Writer’s Journal and completes the TV collectible set.

Initiation 9

  • No collectibles in this chapter.

Return 8: Deerfest

  • Final Commercial (Sellabrothers):
    • Go into the Oh Deer Diner, and you’ll find the last Sellabrother commercial.
    • Collecting this will trigger the final trophy associated with Alan’s collectibles.
