When it comes to boss fights in Aeterna Noctis, few encounters are as chaotic and deceptively tricky as the battle against Warmerock. This fight isn’t just about brute force or raw agility—it’s about control, pacing, and strategic multitasking. While Warmerock itself is certainly a threat, the real danger lies in the waves of smaller worms it summons mid-battle. In this guide, we’ll break down the best tactics to manage both the main boss and its minions, optimize your build, and walk out victorious.

Choosing Your Build – Melee vs. Ranged

Both melee and arrow-based builds are viable in this fight, but each comes with its own pros and cons. Arrow buildsallow you to keep your distance and minimize direct risk, but the fight will drag out longer, giving more opportunities for small worms to overwhelm you. Melee builds, on the other hand, can be much faster if executed well—but they require confidence in your movement and timing.

Regardless of your chosen build, one weapon stands out: the Spear of Cycles. If you want to dominate this fight efficiently, this spear is your go-to. It can be found in the upper tunnels, specifically in the underground maze—a detour worth taking. If you’re set on confronting Warmerock without it, both the Wild Blade and the Bloodthirsty Scytheare solid alternatives, particularly for clearing out the summoned worms.

Phase One: Learning the Boss’s Rhythm

The battle begins with a spinning charge attack that sends Warmerock zipping back and forth across the screen. This move can be dodged in multiple ways depending on your mobility upgrades. If you’ve already unlocked Double Jump, you can simply jump and dash over it. Alternatively, a well-timed pogo attack on top of the boss can bait it into its next sequence—a double bite attack.

Here’s the key pattern to remember: once you bait Warmerock—either by jumping over or pogoing—it will bite twice, then on the third cycle, it will re-emerge from below. That’s your moment. As it bursts back up, you’ll see its eye—the only vulnerable point. Fire a shot (or prepare a melee strike) directly at it. Using slow motion (if available) can help you nail the hit.

The Real Threat – Yellow Eggs and Swarming Worms

Each time Warmerock re-emerges, it also signals the arrival of its minions. Yellow eggs will begin to fall from the ceiling. If you allow them to hit the ground, they hatch into small but fast worms that quickly crowd the arena. Destroy the eggs mid-air whenever possible—this is crucial to avoid being overwhelmed.

Once the eggs drop, Warmerock vanishes temporarily, giving you a small window to clean house. This is your moment to act. Use area-of-effect (AoE) weapons to clear out the room. The Spear of Cycles is incredibly effective here. One or two strikes can wipe the floor—literally—if you’ve baited the worms into gathering together. The trick is to run across the arena, letting the worms follow you, and then use the spear’s full reach to decimate them.

If you don’t have the spear, you’ll need to be more precise. The Wild Blade and Scythe can still get the job done with some patience. The goal is always the same: eliminate the worms before triggering the next Warmerock phase. If you don’t, they’ll stack up with each cycle and turn the fight into an unmanageable mess.

Combat Tips: Control, Heal, Repeat

Timing is everything. If you find yourself short on Blood to power your heavy-hitting weapons, you can pogo off the smaller worms. This not only buys time but keeps them from striking. However, this strategy becomes increasingly risky once Warmerock returns, as you’ll have more to dodge.

The edges of the stage offer a unique tactic: if you jump near the corners of the platform, you can dodge the spinning charge without triggering Warmerock’s biting sequence. Use this to your advantage if you need a moment to heal or reposition.

Just don’t get cocky. Standing still or lingering in obvious spots will result in a brutal retribution, as seen in moments like these (don’t repeat those mistakes). Anticipate the boss’s re-emergence and get out of the way before it happens.

Final Strategy: Rinse, Refocus, Repeat

Once you understand the core cycle—bait, attack, clear worms, repeat—the fight becomes a game of discipline. Keep the battlefield clean, don’t get greedy with your hits, and always keep track of where the rock vibrations indicate worm spawns. If you maintain control of the add spawns, Warmerock itself is predictable and beatable.

It’s a classic Aeterna Noctis challenge: overwhelming at first, but entirely conquerable with patience and practice. Victory lies not in overwhelming force, but in composure and rhythm.

You’ve got this. Now go turn that worm into dust.
