Welcome, outlaws. If you’re hunting for every single weapon Red Dead Redemption 2 has to offer, you’re in the right place. In total, there are 60 weapons in the game—or 59 if you’re not counting the Stone Hatchet, which is only available if you’ve completed a specific GTA Online mission. That aside, many of these weapons are craftable, found during missions, or scattered throughout the vast game world. A handful are unique and missable, meaning if you overlook them, they may be gone for good.
To fully complete your Compendium and reach that golden 100% completion mark, you only need 48 weapons. But let’s be honest—there’s real pride in owning them all. This guide breaks down every weapon you can get in each chapter, so you’ll know what to grab and when.
Chapter 1: The Basics Begin
You start your journey strong, with 10 weapons made available during story missions:
- Unarmed (Counts toward total)
- Cattleman Revolver
- Hunting Knife
- Sawn-Off Shotgun
- Bow and Arrow
- Carbine Repeater
- Dynamite
- Volcanic Pistol
- Varmint Rifle
- Springfield Rifle
All of these are unmissable if you complete the chapter’s missions. If you miss one, don’t worry—they’ll show up in the gunsmith’s inventory.
Chapter 2: The Armory Expands
Chapter 2 unlocks over 20 weapons, both via missions and exploration. From story missions, you’ll pick up:
- Tomahawk
- Double-Barrel Shotgun
- Throwing Knife
- Pump Action Shotgun
- Rolling Block Rifle
- Double Action Revolver
- Schofield Revolver
- Lancaster Repeater
If you miss any of these during missions, you can buy them later. But now, let’s talk about the juicy stuff—the unique and missable ones:
Noblest of Men and a Lot of Missables
Head to Valentine and speak with Theodore Levin in the saloon. This mission has you tracking down four gunslingers. Three of them drop unique weapons:
- Midnight’s Pistol (Billy Midnight)
- Granger’s Revolver (Emmet Granger)
- Flaco’s Revolver (Flaco Hernandez)
Don’t forget to loot their corpses immediately, or you’ll lose the chance to own these forever.
Exploration Unlocks
Head west to Big Valley to blow open a mine hiding the White Blade Knife and Miner’s Hat. Up north? Look inside a dead bear for the Antler Blade. Nearby, you’ll find the Double Bit Hatchet in a tree stump near Wallace Station, and the Hunter Hatchet behind a shack by the river. More blades follow:
- Tomahawk at Calumet Ravine
- Hewing Hatchet near Moonshine Pond
- Hatchet (Ann’sburg) behind a shack
And don’t forget the Rare Shotgun, found on a hostile hermit guarding his shack. Loot him fast—like others, it disappears forever if left behind. You’ll also find Mosey Miller’s Treasure Map Part 2 in a drawer inside.
Viking Relics
Explore the old Viking tomb west of Ann’sburg to find:
- Viking Helmet
- Viking Comb
- Viking Hatchet (inside a skull)
More weapons continue to flow:
- Rusty Hatchet near Ann’sburg
- Civil War Knife and Civil War Hat at Fort Brennand (don’t miss the gold nugget and horse tonic pamphlet here!)
Now go deep south, near Saint Denis, and you’ll find the Broken Pirate Sword on a boat in an alligator-infested swamp.
The Dino Hunt Rewards
Talk to a stranger near Valentine to start the Dinosaur Bones quest:
- Quartz Chunk (after sending in your first bone)
- Jawbone Knife (after finding all 30)
Chapter 3: Snipers and Fire Bottles
Chapter 3 adds three weapons:
- Fire Bottle
- Bolt Action Rifle
- Rare Rolling Block Rifle (MISSABLE)
The rare sniper appears in the mission Magicians for Sport. You must loot him before leaving the barn—it’s the only chance.
Chapter 4: High-Caliber Side Quests
Two weapons unlock in missions:
- Semi-Automatic Pistol
- Semi-Automatic Shotgun
And two unique collectibles:
- Algernon’s Revolver
- Exotic Hat
These are tied to the Duchess and Other Animals quest, where you collect over 190 orchids. After the Gilded Cagemission, seek this quest out.
Also, complete the final Noblest of Men quest after A Night of Debauchery to duel Slim Grant and get:
- Elevator Revolver (again—loot immediately or it’s gone)
Chapter 5: Crafting and Close-Combat Options
During this chapter you’ll unlock:
- Hatchet
- Machete
- Cleaver
- Mauser Pistol
Now’s also the time to handle all craftable weapons, since the recipes become fully accessible:
- Improved Tomahawk
- Homing Tomahawk
- Volatile Fire Bottle
- Volatile Dynamite
- Improved Throwing Knife
- Poison Throwing Knife
Some are learned in Chapter 2, others purchased from the Fence. But all must be read and crafted at a campfire to count.
Chapter 6: Final Unlocks Before the Epilogue
You’ll grab three more weapons from story missions:
- Carcano Sniper Rifle
- Litchfield Repeater
- Repeating Shotgun
The Ornate Dagger and the Vampire
In Saint Denis, decode five cryptic wall writings to uncover the vampire’s alley. Follow the clues and arrive at midnight at the church’s rear entrance. Save beforehand. If the vampire appears, kill him immediately and take the Ornate Dagger. Do not tie him up—if you do, he won’t use the weapon and it will never spawn.
Epilogue: Four More to Go
During Epilogue Part 1:
- John’s Knife
- John’s Pistol (automatically acquired)
After the final mission American Venom, head to Mount Hagen:
- Micah’s Revolver (loot his body post-battle)
Finally, the Otis Miller’s Revolver, hidden in a cave in New Austin. Combine two treasure map halves found earlier to reach it.
Final Notes
You now have 60 weapons if you followed each step, or 59 if you skipped the GTA Online mission for the Stone Hatchet. Remember, for 100% completion, you only need 48—but what kind of outlaw settles for anything less than the full arsenal?
Stay sharp, loot fast, and don’t forget to keep those saves frequent. A single missed corpse could mean losing a once-in-a-lifetime weapon forever.
