Welcome to another practical Garry’s Mod weapons tutorial! In this guide, we’ll walk through the process of building a compact missile launcher—a powerful, functional, and efficient setup that fires grouped missiles with enhanced aim. If you’ve always wanted to construct a modular missile platform or integrate missile systems into your creations like tanks or turrets, this is your starting point.

Concept Overview

Our goal is to build a missile launcher system with four firing tubes, each loaded with five missiles for a total of 20 projectiles. This configuration increases hit probability by dispersing fire across a wider area, and it’s surprisingly compact. The idea is to stack missiles in a single barrel and launch them in succession.

Step 1: Setting Up the Base Tubes

  1. Go to Props > Steel and select a rectangular tube or pipe to use as your missile container.
  2. Create four identical tubes. You can place them in a 2×2 formation or align them in a line, depending on your aesthetic preference.
  3. Ensure all tubes are frozen in place using the Physics Gun.

Step 2: Preparing the Missiles

  1. Select a small missile-shaped prop for your projectile. Choose something with decent balance and shape.
  2. For each missile tube, insert five missiles—one at a time:
    • Start with the last missile (firing last) in the deepest position.
    • Continue stacking forward, with the first missile you want to fire placed closest to the opening.
  3. Carefully space the missiles using millimeter-level precision to prevent collisions.
  4. Use No-Collide or proper force welding where necessary to prevent in-tube explosion or erratic physics.
  5. Set Physical Properties to “super ice” to reduce friction in the tube.

Step 3: Firing Setup

Each missile will be powered by a thruster that launches it on activation. Here’s how to configure them:

  1. Go to the Thruster Tool.
  2. Attach a thruster to the back of each missile.
  3. Assign each thruster a unique hotkey, grouping them by tube (e.g., all five missiles in Tube 1 fire with Key 1).
  4. Set force value for each missile’s thruster—5000 is often enough.
  5. Toggle the “toggle” checkbox to ensure pressing the button once launches the missile without needing to hold it.

Repeat this setup for each missile in each tube, making sure everything is in correct sequence.

Step 4: Duplication and Scaling

Once your first tube is complete:

  1. Use the Duplicator Tool to save the finished tube.
  2. Right-click the tube, then left-click to paste copies.
  3. Carefully position and align your duplicated tubes around a central base prop—preferably something heavy (1500+ mass units).
  4. Freeze all duplicated parts carefully. Hold Shift when moving them to avoid jarring motions that could break welds or force links.

Step 5: Final Assembly and Firing Test

  1. Use the Weld Tool to attach all missile tubes to the central base.
    • Use a force limit of 0 to ensure firm attachment.
  2. Apply any finishing touches: materials, colors, skins (e.g., Camo, Black Chrome).
  3. Save the full assembly again using the duplicator.

Now it’s time for a test:

  • Unfreeze the whole structure.
  • Fire using your pre-set keys. Each press should release a burst of four or five missiles depending on your grouping.
  • Watch the sky light up!

Additional Tips

  • Use the Weight Tool if you plan to mount the launcher on vehicles. 600-unit tubes get heavy fast.
  • If mounting to cars, make the entire system lighter or use a sturdier car base.
  • Be patient with precision—building missiles is detail-oriented. Rushing often leads to misalignment.
  • You can reload quickly by spawning a saved duplicate and replacing the launcher.

Creative Applications

  • Use as artillery on base defense builds.
  • Mount on tanks or aircraft for cinematic effect.
  • Combine with targeting systems or Wiremod for automated launches.
  • Or just… fill the skies with fireworks for fun.

Conclusion

Missile systems in GMod are a fantastic creative outlet—engineering, physics, and explosions all in one. With this compact missile launcher design, you now have a scalable base system that you can customize and expand upon. Whether for roleplay, combat simulations, or just chaotic fun, you’re all set.
