Doors is full of surprises, traps, and terrifying entities—and mastering the game takes more than just running from room to room. This guide breaks down the most useful tips and tricks to help you survive longer, loot smarter, and conquer every floor, including the secret area past door 61. Whether you’re a new player or returning for deeper knowledge, this guide will get you up to speed.

Early Game Tips: Preparation and Looting

Buy the Lighter First – As soon as the game starts, purchase the lighter but save it until the greenhouse (last 10 rooms). The greenhouse is extremely dark, and Rush doesn’t flicker the lights in this zone. You’ll only hear him if you’re not snared, and snares will trap you—so use the lighter carefully to avoid getting caught off guard.

Loot Smart – As you move through the rooms, spam the use button while looking upward to loot drawers and objects faster. This technique allows you to collect gold efficiently while moving.

Save Your Crucifix – The crucifix is one of the most powerful items in the game, but it can be used accidentally if held out too early. Only equip it when needed and remember which hotbar slot it’s in. It kills most entities, but only stunsfigure and seek.

Understanding Item Utility

  • Candle Turns Blue = Entity Nearby – This is especially useful for screech or Rush in the greenhouse. Keep it on your hotbar.
  • Skeleton Key vs. Crucifix – Go for the skeleton key over the crucifix when possible. You can use it to unlock the Healing Plant, which gives you permanent healing for the rest of your run.
  • Door Numbers Matter – Always remember your last door number. If dupe is present, the wrong door often growlsor makes ambient noise, while the correct door is silent or plays rainstorm audio.

Surviving Room 50 and the Hotel Endgame

Room 50 is all about patience and stealth. The figure can’t hear crouched footsteps, but it will sense you if you’re too close due to your heartbeat.

  • Use guiding lights to find electrical breakers.
  • Upstairs is safe until figure chases you.
  • Collect all 10 breakers, get the electrical room key, and head to the breaker room.
  • Solve the number puzzle by flicking only the filled-in numbers.

Once complete, figure will chase you—run directly to the elevator and escape.

Secret Area (A-001 to A-1000)

To reach the secret rooms:

  1. Buy 2 lock picks and a skeleton key.
  2. At room 61, flick the lever in the basement.
  3. Go through the secret bookshelf passage in room 61.

Once inside:

  • A60 behaves like Rush but doesn’t flicker the lights. Use flashlight or candle, and listen carefully. Hide immediately when you hear it.
  • Wait 5 seconds near lockers after entering each room to ensure safe hiding.
  • A90 will show a warning icon. The moment it appears, freeze entirely to avoid heavy damage.
  • A120 appears around door A120 and behaves like Rush but in reverse. Hide just like with A60, but expect it to backtrack in some cases.

General Survival Strategies

  • Use walls in dark rooms to guide yourself if lost.
  • Play with friends, especially for puzzles like the code in room 50. One player can read the code, the other can input it.
  • Avoid figure in room 50 by circling the bookshelf near the closet. It won’t catch you unless too close.

Facing Halt – You don’t have to turn around completely. Just move backward instead of rotating—this saves time.

During Seek Chase – Always look both ways and follow the Guiding Light. It’ll direct you down the safe path.

Extra Tips

  • Save up lock picks for golden crates—a valuable reward later in runs.
  • Test your candle, flashlight, or crucifix setups early so you’re not fumbling later.
  • Don’t rush (pun intended). Doors is all about strategy, timing, and environmental awareness.

Mastering Doors means mastering its items, room layouts, and behavior of its many enemies. With these tips, you’re now better equipped to push past door 100—or door A1000—and win. Good luck, and may the Guiding Light lead your way.
