If you’re stepping into the boots of the Support role in Hell Let Loose, you’re already doing your team a huge favor. It’s not glamorous, it’s not flashy—but make no mistake, this is one of the most important roles on the battlefield. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about playing Support the right way, from loadouts to battlefield strategy and coordination with your team.

Why Support Matters

The Support class is the backbone of your team’s infrastructure. Without Support, there are no garrisons. And without garrisons, there are no forward spawns. So if you’re tired of running from HQ to the front lines every time you die, guess what? So is everyone else. That’s why playing Support well can make or break the match.

Support’s primary job is to drop supply boxes so that squad leaders can build garrisons or engineers can build nodes. That sounds simple on paper—but timing, positioning, and communication are everything.

Loadouts and Tools of the Trade

Standard Loadout:

  • 2 Frag Grenades
  • 3 Bandages
  • Supply Box
  • Hammer
  • Knife or Shovel
  • Primary Weapon: M1 Garand (US), Kar 98k (Germany), Mosin-Nagant (Soviets)

Level 3 Loadout:

  • 1 Small Arms Ammo Box
  • 1 Explosive Ammo Box
  • Hammer
  • Knife or Shovel
  • Primary Weapon: M3 Grease Gun (US), MP40 (Germany), SVT-40 (Soviets)

The level 3 loadout makes you an even better teammate with resupply boxes for both small arms and explosives. Keep this in mind when playing alongside machine gunners, medics, or AT players.

Team Coordination Is Key

Support is not a solo role. You’ll need to actively coordinate with squad leaders and engineers to maximize your effectiveness. Learn their map icons and use voice and text chat to find out where your supplies are most needed.

At the start of a match, coordinate with your squad leader to drop your supplies in an ideal spot for a starting garrison. You can check if you’re within the build radius (50 meters) by bringing up your HUD (T on PC, right D-pad on console) and seeing if your supply box icon is visible.

If your squad leader doesn’t initiate a garrison build, speak up. Suggest a location, ask if they’d like you to drop supplies, or even find another squad nearby who needs them. Initiative can save games.

Mechanics of Supply Box Placement

  • You can only have one supply box active at a time.
  • Supply boxes cannot be moved once placed.
  • There’s a 5-minute cooldown before you can place a new one.
  • Placing a new box replaces the old one.
  • Structures built with your supplies do not refund your supply cooldown, even if dismantled.

To drop a box, equip it and look down until you see a green outline. Use E/Q (or Left Bumper on console) to rotate, and then hold Left Click or Aim to place.

Red Zone Garrison Tip

Building garrisons in enemy territory (Red Zone) requires 100 supplies. Since you only carry 50, coordinate with a second Support to join you, or ask your squadmate to redeploy and swap roles. Dropping two 50-supply boxes from two different players does the trick.

Building Nodes the Efficient Way

Support plays a vital role in building resource nodes too. Here’s the trick:

  • When within 50 meters of a manpower node, your cooldown is cut in half (from 5 minutes to 2.5 minutes).
  • So always build the manpower node first.
  • Then build munitions and fuel with that reduced cooldown.

Ideal node placement is in the first friendly sector. Nodes in captured sectors will be lost if the enemy pushes your team back. One engineer can build a full node set (manpower, fuel, munitions), and the team can have up to three full sets.

Making the Most of Your Ammo Boxes

If using the level 3 loadout, you can supply both small arms and explosives:

  • Stay near AT players and MGs. Drop explosive boxes when tanks are near.
  • Avoid placing ammo at garrisons—spawned-in players have full ammo already.
  • Drop ammo closer to frontlines or near choke points for maximum utility.

General Strategy and Mindset

Support is a selfless role. You’re not here for top kills—you’re here to keep the machine running. But that doesn’t mean you should be idle. Stay alert, check the map often, and keep scanning for where your help can make the most impact.

Got downtime after dropping supplies? Use your hammer to assist engineers with builds. Build nodes when needed. Repair structures. Communicate actively with your squad and nearby teams.

Final Thoughts

Support doesn’t always get the glory—but it does win matches. Think like an offensive lineman: the work is invisible, but it gives everyone else the chance to shine. And when your team steamrolls the map because your garrisons are always up, you’ll know exactly who made that possible.

Support players are MVPs—whether anyone notices or not.

Stay sharp, stay supplied, and keep your team moving forward.
