G’day, g’day! After spending over a thousand hours in My Summer Car, it’s safe to say I’ve learned a thing or two — and in celebration of hitting 3,000 subscribers, I’m sharing 30 of the most useful tips and tricks I’ve picked up, along with a few community-submitted gems. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a veteran of the Finnish countryside, these tips are sure to make your time in My Summer Car smoother, safer, and a lot more fun.

Food, Fuel, and Cooking

  1. Don’t waste money on charcoal — just cook sausages directly on the stove. It’s faster and cheaper.
  2. Beer lowers hunger — if your hunger bar is red, chugging beer will drop it. But be warned: the more you drink, the drunker you’ll get.
  3. Food now spoils — sausages, milk, macaron boxes, and more will go bad if not refrigerated. Only chips don’t spoil.
  4. Drinking sources — tap water (kitchen or bathroom) and village water wells are both safe to drink from.
  5. Always carry drinks in the sauna — you can die from dehydration if you don’t drink while using it.

Transportation & Driving

  1. You can take the tractor to Flotari’s and buy the cheapest item to temporarily get your Satsuma back — but don’t forget to return the borrowed vehicle or your Satsuma gets trashed.
  2. Bikes are dangerous without helmets — go above 72 mph and hit a bee? You’re blinded and probably dead.
  3. Van is a death trap at high speed — though it can go 100, anything above 80 mph risks chassis flex and a crash.
  4. Cousin driving too fast? Press O to make him stop, then hit Enter to go again. He’ll speed back up, so keep repeating if needed.
  5. 159 logs fill a trailer — if someone proves this wrong, feel free to share corrections in the comments.
  6. Park on road shoulders — NPCs won’t stop for you. Ever. Hit and runs are the norm.

Saving, Waiting, and Bypassing Time

  1. Teimo’s shop closed? Use the toilet behind the shop to save. Reloading the save advances time two hours.
  2. Unwanted night calls? Unplug the phone before bed to avoid the drunk guy waking you up.
  3. Teimo’s delivery wait time — part orders arrive in real life 15–20 minutes or next in-game day.
  4. Lost your Gifu hose? Save and reload — it’ll respawn back on the truck.

Game Mechanics & Hidden Functions

  1. You pee slower with a low bar — hold P to force a faster stream.
  2. Double tap I to flick away a cigarette before it’s finished.
  3. Steering alignment — scroll the bolt until the wheel stops moving, then reverse 60 clicks to center it.
  4. Glow plugs for diesel — wait for the glow plug light to go off before cranking; it starts quicker.
  5. Use the sauna responsibly — dying from thirst while relaxing is embarrassingly common.

Safety Hazards to Avoid

  1. Avoid answering a single-ring phone during storms — it’s a death trap.
  2. Don’t pee on electronics — fuse boxes, TVs, computers, even in prison. You’ll get shocked and die.
  3. Never use the phone in a thunderstorm — you can be electrocuted.
  4. Wearing no helmet in a car with a cracked windshield increases crash risk.
  5. Resetting deadzones after updates — if controls feel off, reset them to default.

Crime, Cops, and Consequences

  1. Tickets show up in your kitchen — ignore them and police will come to arrest you.
  2. Police chases happen — if you evade or fail to pay, expect a knock on your door.

Glitches, Mods, and Community Wisdom

  1. Cheating death via Alt+F4 used to work pre-death notice in older versions — not anymore.
  2. Mods can enhance gameplay — even if buggy, you’ll learn faster and gain flexibility.
  3. Dirtiness doesn’t kill — maxing out your filth won’t hurt you, but it’s still a good habit to stay clean.
