Auto farming in Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is one of the most effective ways to rack up experience, Gald, Grade, and even unlock altered artes — all while stepping away from the console. Whether you’re prepping for a New Game+, leveling for the postgame, or just want to max out artes and skill sets, this method can yield big rewards with minimal input. However, note that extended sessions can risk overheating your console, so plan accordingly.
Why Auto Farm?
Leaving your game running overnight or while away allows you to collect a massive amount of:
- EXP and Gald
- Kills (for titles or trophies)
- Fatal Strikes and Arte usage counts
- Skill unlocks for weapons
- Altered Artes progress
This method works on all platforms but requires specific setups and conditions.
Step 1: Prerequisites
- You must have progressed far enough in the story to fight Giganto monsters.
- Brutal, the Giganto monster near Dahngrest, is your primary target.
Before starting:
- Disable all power-saving settings to prevent your console from sleeping or shutting down.
Step 2: Party & Equipment Setup
Party Members:
- All four should be set up for auto-battle.
- One healer (e.g., Flynn) is highly recommended.
Key Equipment:
- Minimum Damage Weapons (for the lead character)
- Paralysis Charm or Amulet
- High-defense gear to increase survivability
- Other party members: Equip weapons with skills to be learned
Skills to Equip:
- Fatal Strike Bonus 1 & 2
- Over Limit Bonus 1 & 2
- Recommended: Over Limit, Concentrate, Limit Boost, Happiness, and general defense boosts
- Non-main characters: Must have EXP Share equipped to benefit from farming
Important: DO NOT equip skills like:
- Minimum, Half, or Quarter Damage (only use via weapons — not equipped directly)
- Defense-lowering skills
- Reflex skills (can cause more than 1 damage, defeating Brutal prematurely)
Step 3: Artes Setup
For Main Characters:
- Enable artes that result in green Fatal Strikes only
- For Rita, equip Tidal Wave if available
For Altered Artes Farming:
- Enable Arte-changing skills and their respective artes
- Refer to comprehensive altered arte guides (like DoubleonScoreLance’s) for more precise setups
Step 4: Strategy Settings
In the Strategy Menu:
- Set the lead character to Auto
- Set behavior to Prioritize Fatal Strikes and Over Limit usage
- Set positioning to exactly match the guide or video strategy
Step 5: Start the Fight
Brutal only appears during the daytime outside Dahngrest.
- If missing, enter Dahngrest, exit, and repeat until he spawns
- Before walking away, observe your team for a few minutes:
- Ensure no one is dying
- Confirm Over Limit and Fatal Strikes are being used frequently
- Check your healer is casting when necessary
Once everything looks stable, you can safely leave the console running.
Step 6: Post-Farm Wrap-Up
When you’re ready to stop:
- Open the menu during the fight
- Switch weapons to those with skills you want to unlock
- Equip Dice or Sephiras for Gald gain
- Take manual control or let the fight finish on Auto
After the battle ends:
- You should see significant EXP, Gald, Grade, and skill unlock progress
- SAVE IMMEDIATELY to avoid losing progress
- Turn off the console to allow it to cool down after prolonged use
Final Notes
With proper preparation and a bit of patience, auto farming can supercharge your party’s progress while giving your thumbs a rest. It’s ideal for players chasing full mastery, grinding titles, or preparing for the tougher postgame content.
If this helped you, don’t forget to share it with fellow Tales fans — and enjoy the rewards of smart, efficient farming. Happy grinding!
