Boss Abilities and How to Handle Them
- Rapid Cleave
- A three-strike cleave attack directed in front of the boss.
- Only the Main Tank should be standing in front of Malcolin.
- If adds are up during this, the tank should use personal cooldowns or call for external heals.
- Melee DPS must always stay behind the boss to avoid this damage.
- Shockwave
- A two-second cast ability that sends a wave in a straight line toward the largest group of players.
- To avoid being hit, quickly move left or right out of the projected path before the cast finishes.
- Positioning awareness is key—don’t get caught standing still!
- Water Bomb
- A random raid member receives a swirling water debuff.
- The affected player must immediately move away from the group.
- When the debuff expires, it explodes in a large AOE blast.
- If the tank gets the debuff, melee DPS must temporarily back off from the boss to avoid splash damage.
Add Waves and Their Handling
After cycling through his basic abilities, Malcolin will summon waves of adds.
- Wave 1:
- 5 Merfolk Warriors (melee adds)
- 2 Merfolk Archers (ranged adds)
Strategy for Wave 1:
- If using two tanks, the off-tank picks up the adds.
- If using one tank, DPS must wait until the tank establishes aggro.
- Once threat is secured, DPS must focus on burning down the adds quickly.
After the first wave, another Shockwave and Water Bomb will occur—handle them as before.
- Wave 2:
- 5 Merfolk Warriors
- 1 Merfolk Shaman
Strategy for Wave 2:
- Same tanking and DPS handling applies.
- Key Difference: When the Merfolk Shaman dies, he drops a large blue sphere called “Refuge.”
Storm’s Call Mechanic: Critical Phase
Following the Shaman’s death, the boss will cast Storm’s Call.
- All players must stand inside the Refuge sphere.
- Anyone outside the Refuge during Storm’s Call will take lethal damage.
Healing and Damage Management During Storm’s Call:
- Even inside the Refuge, players will suffer heavy raid-wide damage.
- Healers must use major cooldowns to stabilize the group.
Tank Alert:
- Immediately after Storm’s Call, Malcolin follows up with Rapid Cleave.
- Tanks should be ready with personal defensives and coordinate healer cooldowns to survive the burst.
Final Phase: Rinse and Repeat
After the second add wave and Storm’s Call phase, the fight repeats:
- Shockwave ➔ Water Bomb ➔ Adds ➔ Storm’s Call
Stay disciplined, repeat your earlier strategies, and you’ll bring Malcolin down with no issues.
Summary of Key Points

- Dodge Shockwaves quickly.
- Water Bomb players must move out immediately.
- Tanks pick up adds quickly, DPS wait for threat.
