Whether you’re new to Soulmask or working your way through the midgame, mastering progression is key to surviving and thriving. This guide covers everything from early awareness XP strategies to advanced crafting and automation setups. Read on for practical advice, from basic tips to more advanced systems that will accelerate your progress in the game.

1. Fastest Awareness Strength Gains

Mining is the most efficient and consistent way to build awareness strength early on. Focus on mining clay, copper, and tin in medium and small pits. Clear out any mobs (e.g., elite bush dogs or the Flint tribe), and then freely farm the area. For added experience, combine mining with combat by farming areas like the copper ore mine near the Barbarian Barracks.

2. Switch Off Your Starter Character

Your initial character is capped at level 50 for all skills, limiting its long-term value. As soon as you acquire other tribespeople, especially those with 90+ or 120+ in skills, switch over to them. Legendary (red icon) or gold quality tribespeople have higher caps and more perks. Use the Quality Assessment mask skill to identify them in the wild.

3. Managing Tool Durability and Repairs

Each repair you perform on tools, armor, or weapons reduces their max durability. Monitor this carefully. Once it drops significantly, replace the item instead of repairing further. Use durability mods on plundered gear to extend their lifespan, especially since these items can’t be repaired.

4. Use Portals and Understand Travel Efficiency

Activate every portal you find — this allows fast travel between areas. The closer you build to a portal, the better. This is crucial because resources, mods, and dungeons are scattered across the map. You can even build your own portal later using the Mysterious Stone Table and blue crystals (obtained by defeating bosses like the Sabertooth multiple times).

5. Avoid Building on Rock Formations

Do not build bases on isolated rock formations. If attackers (AI or human) cannot path to your base properly, they may spawn inside or on top of it, leading to quick destruction. Stay grounded near portals for safety and convenience.

6. Speed Up Taming with Beds

Place knocked-out tribespeople in beds to speed up taming. Set up temporary outposts near raid zones with multiple beds, or use beds found inside enemy camps. Be aware: on PvP servers, others can steal your tamed people if left unattended.

7. Buffs, Foods, and Medicine Stacking

Always consume:

  • A meat dish
  • A staple food
  • A fruit or vegetable

Recreational items (alcohol, cigars) and beverages (like iced cocoa) offer additional buffs. Buffs from medicines (e.g., antidotes) and recreational items stack. Use excitement potions for morale and movement boosts. Always carry both instant and over-time healing items for different situations.

8. Replenish Mask Energy Efficiently

Instead of chugging Sunstones manually, use the Mysterious Stone Table. Place a single Sunstone of “not enough energy” as fuel and others as input. Craft Energy Gathering Crystals, which instantly restore 10,000 mask energy with one use.

9. Stack Mods for Weapons and Armor

Apply multiple mods to gear for cumulative bonuses. Prioritize:

  • Durability mods for plundered gear
  • Bleed, coma, and paralysis mods for weapons
  • Heat, chill, poison, and defense mods for armor

Armor like rings and necklaces may only accept certain mods until late-game.

10. Follow the Light System in Dungeons

To find the dungeon boss easily, follow doors with one lit and one unlit light beside them. If both lights are on, it’s a dead end. This trick reliably leads you to the final boss.

11. Replace Your Mains with Better Tribespeople

Your mask skill tree allows you to imprint up to three backup tribespeople via the Mysterious Stone Table. Update them regularly to revive your best fighters or crafters if they die.

12. Unlocking the Full Map

To reveal new zones, locate and visit Scout Camps found in the fog of war. Even if you’re under-leveled for an area, unlocking the map opens up travel and future opportunities.

13. Cook Food Early and Often

Upgraded food offers far better stats than raw meat:

  • Fruit kebabs: Movement speed and mood
  • Cooked potatoes: Massive carrying capacity
  • Quinoa porridge: +200% XP gain for your character

Use mood-boosting food to improve tribesman productivity.

14. Don’t Forget Red Crystal Mask Slots

Use red crystals to boost specific stats like:

  • Poison resistance
  • Max HP or stamina
  • Spear damage

Swap these in and out based on current content using the mask interface.

15. Automate Your Base and Specialize Roles

Assign tribespeople to stations based on their highest skill levels:

  • 60+ for bronze/stern
  • 90+ for iron
  • 120+ for steel

Unlock automation for:

  • Granaries (farming)
  • Animal pens (livestock)
  • Patrol routes (base defense)

This frees you to focus on progression and higher-level combat.

By following these tips, you’ll make your Soulmask experience smoother, more efficient, and a lot more enjoyable.
