In Soulmask, mastering automation through your tribesmen is one of the biggest keys to long-term progression and efficiency. From gathering resources to farming and crafting, getting your tribe set up properly can free up your time for exploration and boss fights. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about setting up automation in Soulmask—from the basics to late-early-game setups.

Step 1: Understanding the Clan Menu

Press “I” to open the Clan Menu. Here, you can see your current clan members, their stats, jobs, and available traits. Your total capacity can be increased via the Connection Enhancement skill tree in the mask system. At max (with Awareness Strength level 25), you can have up to 18 tribesmen.

To properly utilize each tribesman, hover over their job and view their maximum proficiency in tasks like mining, crafting, planting, or combat. Assign them accordingly to ensure high efficiency.

Step 2: Recruiting the Best Tribesmen

Unlock “Quality Assessment” in the Perception Enhancement skill tree. This lets you hold Q to inspect potential recruits. Look for tribesmen with gold or red diamonds next to their names—these indicate high potential.

Each tribesman has thresholds at 30, 60, 90, and 120 proficiency, unlocking bonuses like:

  • Output increase
  • Speed increase
  • Tool durability reduction
  • Advanced crafting (e.g. Bronze, Iron, Steel gear)

Name and label your tribesmen based on their roles (e.g. “Guard – 120 Shield”).

Step 3: Assigning Tasks and Resource Collection

To assign gathering tasks:

  1. Open the clan menu
  2. Go to Wild Collection
  3. Set their target bonfire
  4. Choose between mining, logging, or harvesting

Give them the correct tool and set collection to “unlimited” or specify a quantity.

Use the checkbox to “automatically discard broken tools”, and keep replacement tools in a designated chest. Set up a crafting table with circulating queue for tools every 30 minutes (adjust based on tool quality and tribe size).

Step 4: Using Crafting Tables Efficiently

  • Hold P over any workstation to assign a tribesman
  • Assign high-proficiency tribesmen to appropriate stations (e.g. armor crafting, tanning, smelting)

Always enable fuel on upgraded workbenches or recipes won’t work.

Step 5: Automating Agriculture and Animal Care

At Awareness Strength 25, unlock:

  • Granary – Automates farming (watering, fertilizing, harvesting)
  • Premium Breeding – Automates animal pens (feeding, watering, slaughtering)
  • Logging Yard / Excavation Pit / Collection Yard – Automate bush gathering, ore mining, and tree chopping in remote outposts

Assign one tribesman per 6-10 plots for optimal farm automation. Use bone or bronze tier tools to avoid wasting higher-tier resources.

Step 6: Managing Guard Duty

From early game, you can use Guard Facilities to assign patrol routes:

  • Build Patrol Route Checkpoints
  • Assign guard tribesmen
  • Press J > Tribe Members > Tribe Defense to view or modify routes

This helps protect against animals, barbarians, and later game raid events triggered by fever accumulation.

Step 7: Keeping Tribesmen Happy

To keep morale high:

  • Place dining tables near food and drink storage
  • Build seating or mats near bonfires for rest
  • Use fruit juice, hot cocoa, fruit wine, or fruit kebabs to uplift mood

Assign monkeys to gather exotic fruits like bananas and pineapples for food recipes.

Final Notes on Durability and Tool Management

Each repair reduces max durability. Once it drops significantly, discard the tool. Automate crafting of lower-tier tools (e.g. bone tools when you’re using bronze) to avoid wasting materials.

This automation setup will help streamline your entire base and keep your tribe productive. Stay organized, keep an eye on your tool stock, and don’t forget to expand capacity via your mask skill tree.

Happy managing!
