Combat readiness in Myth of Empires isn’t just about finding a strong weapon or crafting decent armor—it’s about optimizing your skill trees and taking deliberate steps to boost your combat efficiency. This guide focuses entirely on how to rapidly level every combat-related skill, from melee to riding. Whether you’re preparing to fend off rival factions or just want to stand your ground against aggressive NPCs, this breakdown will help you level smarter, not harder.
Melee Weapon Skills: One-Handed, Two-Handed, and Polearm
To train your melee weapon skills efficiently—be it one-handed, two-handed, or polearm—the best method isn’t mindless grinding against random enemies. Instead, use a subordinate as a practice dummy. First, locate a high-level NPC and subdue them with your allies, then tie them to a low-level taming pole. As long as your taming skill isn’t high enough to tame them outright, they’ll remain in place for repeated practice.
Now here’s the trick: start attacking the restrained NPC with your melee weapon of choice. You’ll rack up experience without the threat of retaliation. Be careful not to hit the taming pole, as this will degrade your weapon quickly. Give your captive some armor and feed them if you want them to heal over time. It’s a simple, reliable method that can take your weapon skill up to 250 and beyond in a relatively short amount of time. Just cycle through one-handed, two-handed, and polearm weapons as needed.

Ranged Weapon Skills: Bow, Crossbow, and Throwing
Unlike melee, ranged combat skills level up based on usage rather than effectiveness. It doesn’t matter if your shots hit or do damage—the game tracks the number of projectiles you fire. So if you’re looking to level Bow, Crossbow, or Throwing fast, simply craft the lowest-tier gear (stone arrows, bolts, or throwing rocks) and start shooting.
You can shoot at targets or even into empty space; it makes no difference. What matters is the quantity of shots. Allocate your proficiency points to the skill you’re focusing on, and fire away. It’s a grind, yes, but it’s also one of the simplest and most direct ways to farm XP for ranged combat.
Armor Skills: Heavy and Light
Your armor skills—Heavy and Light—are among the most important to level because they offer universal bonuses regardless of which weapon you’re using. To level them, you need to wear the armor type and spend stamina or take damage while wearing it.
You’ll earn XP passively just by performing actions while suited up: chopping trees, mining, or running will all slowly level your armor skill. If you want to speed things up, find a low-level NPC or mob in a safe southern area and let them hit you while you bandage. Foxes, pigs, and low-tier vagrants work well.
And yes, there’s another trick: spam stamina use. Jumping repeatedly, sprinting in circles, even just fidgeting in your base while wearing armor will contribute to your armor XP gain. It’s a stamina-based system, and food consumption will spike, but it works. For time-efficiency, it’s unmatched.
Shield Skill
The shield skill works almost identically to armor. Equip a shield and let enemies attack you while you block. That’s all there is to it. While it might not be the top priority on your skill list, blocking attacks with your shield contributes XP over time. Pick a low-damage mob and go AFK-block if needed—it’s slow, but it adds up.
Physique Skill
Physique represents your raw endurance and plays a major role in how effective your overall combat performance is. Thankfully, this is one of the most passive skills to level. You gain Physique XP by doing almost anything: mining, hunting, lumbering, planting, and especially anything that burns stamina.
The one big tip here? Avoid riding horses unless necessary. Riding limits your stamina use and slows down Physique leveling. For best results, assign as many proficiency points as you can to Physique, stay on foot, and keep active. It’s a slow-grow skill, but a vital one, especially for max HP growth.
Riding Skill
Mounts are key to survival and combat in Myth of Empires, and riding proficiency determines how effectively you can use your horse. Unsurprisingly, riding XP is gained by—riding. That means you need to be on your horse as much as possible.
For fastest results, ride continuously along a safe route on the map. The fewer stops you make, the better. A long, uninterrupted journey across roads with few enemies will yield fast XP. A faster horse speeds this up even more. You can even gain XP by riding into trees—anything that keeps you mounted and moving contributes.
This is a passive skill at its core. You can’t speed it up much beyond just always riding. But it’s critically important for PvP and mobility in general, so prioritize it early and stick with it.
Raising Skill Caps Beyond 450 and 600
You’ll eventually hit skill caps—usually 450, 600, or higher. To raise the cap, you need to visit a skill trainer in a friendly village. Speak with them and pay copper coins to unlock the next threshold. For example, boosting Riding from 450 to 600 costs around 8,500 copper coins.
There’s no alternative to this—no workaround, no grind method to bypass it. If you want to push your combat skills into elite tiers, budget copper for upgrades regularly and plan around this milestone.
Myth of Empires offers a wide variety of skill trees, and combat proficiency isn’t something you can ignore if you’re serious about long-term survival. From smacking restrained NPCs to hopping in place for armor XP, every strategy shared here leans into efficient progression—because in a world this harsh, every edge matters.
