Mounts in Soulmask aren’t just about mobility—they’re companions, status symbols, and even tools in battle. One of the coolest mounts available is the cat mount, typically referred to as a black panther or jungle leopard, depending on in-game naming inconsistencies. If you’re looking to tame one of these majestic felines, this guide will walk you through every step of the process, from preparation to mounting up.

What You’ll Need Before You Start

Before hunting for a baby feline, make sure you’re prepared:

  • Medium traps (multiple recommended)
  • Raw meat/flesh for bait
  • Access to the Life Perception perk under the Mask Node Repair system
  • Awareness Level 25 to unlock the feline saddle blueprint under Bronze Gear
  • Basic Armor Forging Table to craft the saddle

Important: Life Perception allows you to press Q and visually track footprints in the environment—this is how you’ll trigger a feline spawn.

Where to Find Jungle Leopards and Panthers

There are three confirmed spawn zones for the female feline (mother panther):

  1. South of the Pyramid in the rainforest (marks Black Panther spawn directly)
  2. Northeast of the Barbarian Barracks, near copper deposits
  3. Southern Ridge, located behind a common building area

Footprints will appear in these zones. Interact with enough of them, and the female feline will spawn. Other zones likely exist—any time you see paw prints, the process can begin.

Preparing the Area

Once you locate paw prints:

  • Kill all nearby animals, hostile or not. This prevents your target from aggroing random mobs and prolonging the taming process.
  • Keep your distance once the female feline appears—do not get spotted or attacked.

The female feline will go through behavior phases:

  1. Finding Food
  2. Returning Home
  3. Resting
  4. Giving Birth (spawns the baby jungle panther)

If she becomes aggressive and attacks you before giving birth, the entire process is reset. In that case, defeat her and start over by finding new paw prints.

Placing the Trap for the Baby

After the mother gives birth:

  • Place medium traps baited with meat as close to the resting baby as possible without alerting it.
  • Keep track of where you placed traps so you can recover unused ones.

The baby jungle panther will eventually wander into a trap if undisturbed. Be patient—it’s a slow process. Once it stops moving near a trap, it’s likely caught.

Retrieving the Baby Panther

In most cases, the mother will become hostile after the baby is trapped. Be prepared to fight or quickly extract the baby:

  • Interact with the trap to pick up the baby
  • A red exclamation mark will appear above its head, indicating it’s still in a fearful state

Avoid walking over base spikes or hazards while carrying it. These can kill the panther if it’s still in fear mode.

To transition it to a pet:

  • Place it on the ground once you’re in a safe space
  • This removes fear and begins the training/development phase

Feeding, Water, and Development

Back at your base:

  • Set up a trough and sink to provide automatic food and water
  • Alternatively, you can manually place food in its inventory, though it’s less efficient

The feline will begin to grow and train automatically. You can place a saddle on it immediately, even while it’s still small. The saddle scales with the feline as it grows.

Once development reaches 100%, your jungle panther is ready to be mounted.

Additional Notes

  • The level of the baby feline is tied to your character’s level at the time of capture
  • Bringing extra traps ensures you won’t have to leave the area if something goes wrong
  • Baby names may appear inconsistently (e.g., Jungle Panther, Jungle Leopard, Black Panther)

Final Thoughts

The process of taming a cat mount in Soulmask is one of the more immersive and rewarding taming experiences in the game. It takes patience, awareness, and a careful approach—but once you’ve got that jungle panther at your side, it’s all worth it. From sneaking through the rainforest to watching your mini mount grow into a fearsome steed, this is one pet you’ll never regret taming.

Mount up and roam the wilds in style.
