Welcome to this comprehensive guide on how to fully automate your farming operation using NPCs in Myth of Empires. This step-by-step walkthrough will help you establish a self-sustaining system where your only responsibility is to pick up the final products—whether you’re crafting food, medicine, or stockpiling for trade. The entire setup is possible with the help of in-game tools and mechanics, provided you have the correct location and equipment. Let’s dive into what you need to get started and how to get everything running like clockwork.

Step 1: Securing a Farm Plot

Before anything else, you’ll need to locate and secure an actual farm—not just a small plot next to your home base. These proper farm areas are marked on the in-game map with a specific field icon. Be aware that acquiring a farm on official PvP or PvE servers is extremely competitive. Due to overpopulation, these locations are often claimed and walled off. However, if you manage to secure one—or are playing on a private RP or PvE server—then you’re good to go.

Each farm area can vary in level and size, but once you’ve found a suitable one, locate the broken-down shack nearby. This is where you’ll construct your Simple Shed, the foundation for your automated farming process.

Step 2: Building the Simple Shed

At the shack, interact with the structure’s inventory. Important: Only deposit the exact materials required to build the Simple Shed, which are:

  • 2 Wooden Planks
  • 1 Iron Ingot
  • 2 Stones
  • 5 Branches

Do not place any additional materials or the game will delete them. Once the required materials are inside, a green outline will appear, and you can left-click to begin construction. This will build the base structure.

However, you’re not quite done yet. Like boundary markers and guild buildings, the shed’s next construction phase requires further input—specifically, another set of five branches. Once this is complete, the shed becomes fully functional.

Step 3: Assigning NPCs and Setting Up Toolboxes

Once the shed is built, hold E on it and navigate to User Info. This section will give you the details you need to proceed. You’ll now need two NPC warriors under your control. Each field has its own toolbox, and you can assign one NPC per toolbox. Interact with the toolbox using E, select “Paddy Field Working,” and assign an NPC. He’ll wait idly at first—don’t worry, that’s expected.

Step 4: Water Management – Building and Assigning a Well

Next, construct a well and place it in a centralized location within your farm so its irrigation radius covers as many fields as possible. You can place multiple wells if needed, especially for larger farms. After placement, hold E and select “Show Irrigation Range” to confirm coverage.

Assign an NPC to work the well by using E on the well, selecting “Well Working,” and choosing your thrall. This NPC will be responsible for ensuring water is continuously supplied to the fields, eliminating manual watering requirements.

Step 5: Supplying Seeds and Food

Go to your seed storage or base and collect the seeds you plan to grow. Then, interact with each toolbox in the paddy fields and deposit the seeds into the Crafting Material section. If you encounter a problem where the food slots are locked, it’s likely due to an early-game quest requirement—simply cook and eat two locusts and place grass in a campfire to unlock the necessary options.

You’ll also need to stock each toolbox and the well with food under the Warrior Food slots. This is vital—without food, NPCs will not work. Once this is done, your assigned field worker should begin planting, maintaining porosity, and eventually harvesting crops.

Step 6: Equipping NPCs with the Right Tools

To ensure your NPC handles soil porosity (a key stat for growing efficiency), equip them with a hoe. Without the tool, the porosity will not improve. Once equipped, you’ll notice rapid increases in porosity, making the field ready for planting.

Each NPC will take seeds from the crafting box, plant them when the soil is ready, and harvest them upon maturity. The resources are deposited back into the same box, creating a self-sustaining loop.

Step 7: Fertilizer Management

While water is handled by the well, fertilizer is not. You’ll need to stock each toolbox with fertilizer to keep the cycle going. Although NPCs will convert harvested plants into basic fertilizers, it’s a good idea to pre-load:

  • Green Manure
  • Organic Fertilizer
  • Ash Fertilizer

These can be crafted at the Stone Mill. For example:

  • Basic Organic: Requires wood ash, bone meal, and rotten food.
  • Compost: Includes a mix of all fertilizers—ideal for long-term farming.

Step 8: Maintaining the Cycle and Scaling

Once operational, you simply need to periodically collect the harvested goods and refill the food and fertilizer as needed. Space in the boxes is limited, so it’s wise to check in once or twice a day. Consider building your stone mill right next to the fields for efficient transfer.

You can scale this system as large as your guild allows. Since there’s a cap on how many NPCs you can control, you’ll need the help of your guildmates to expand. Additional NPCs can be assigned to crafting stations, like grinders, to further automate your resource processing.

With everything in place, you now have a fully functioning automated farm in Myth of Empires. This system drastically reduces micromanagement and allows for streamlined production of food, medicine, and more. Whether you’re roleplaying, grinding, or crafting, this setup will serve as a reliable backbone for your in-game economy. Be sure to maintain it, and happy farming!
