After years of anticipation, Corepunk has entered Early Access—and for new players diving into the alpha build, the first few hours can feel confusing, especially if you’re unfamiliar with MMO systems. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about starting out, progressing through the first quests, managing early combat and resources, and exploring the alpha’s limited but promising world.
Getting Started: Character Creation and Classes
When launching the game, you’ll begin by creating a character. In the alpha build, there are three playable classes: Warmonger, Champion, and Bomber, each with male and female variants. All progress in the alpha will be wiped, so now’s the time to experiment—try different classes and builds while exploring the mechanics.
For this guide, the example used is a Champion: Destroyer subclass.

Navigating the World and Interface Basics
- Right-click on the ground to move.
- Press L to unlock the camera and move it independently.
- Tab re-centers the camera on your character.
- Open the map to set course directions.
- Interact with tables, crates, fences, and scarecrows by right-clicking—they often hold loot or quest-related items.
Watch for red dots on the mini-map—these indicate nearby enemies, including early ones like mutant rats that are part of your first quests.
Essential Early Quests and Locations
- Southern House & Newcomer Form: Head here first. Interact with the table to collect the newcomer form.
- Zogar’s Quest (Woodcutting): North of the Southern House is Zogar, who gives your first gathering quest.
- Goldenfield Town: The main village has key NPCs:
- Martha / Big Mama: Cooking introduction and vendor for ingredients like salt.
- Oswalt: Access to your personal bank (70 slots).
- Ivy Clarkson (north of welfare kitchen): Sells a variety of vegetables and ingredients.
- Hank Granger (west): Vendor selling armor for each class, including rare cosmetic pieces.
Cooking and Healing
Early on, HP and mana do not regenerate passively. You’ll need to rely on food and cooking systems.
- Cooking Station: Found at the welfare kitchen.
- Wheat Tent & Zar Blipchain: Collect wheat seeds and kill rats in the nearby fields. Convert seeds to wheat flour.
- Crafting even one wheat flour can raise your cooking level significantly.
- Finish Baking Independence quest to earn tons of bread, sugar, and salt.
Key Cooking Tip: Always use food near a campfire. Doing so boosts food efficiency by 200% and triggers health and mana regeneration.
If crafting your own campfire, you’ll need wood—but it’s currently very difficult to gather in this build. Stick to using static campfires in towns.
Combat and Abilities
- Engage enemies by right-clicking them—combat is automatic until interrupted.
- Enemies like birds drop poultry legs; rats drop red tails.
- Leveling up unlocks new abilities, like War Cry or Charge for the Destroyer subclass.
- Use Spacebar to jump over fences for mobility and avoiding enemy pathing.
- Break scarecrows for loot or gold; some even drop headgear specific to class.
- Check settings to adjust targeting preferences—cursor-based vs. nearest enemy targeting.
Managing Death and Recovery
- If you die, you become a spirit and must walk back to your corpse.
- Use the map to locate your death spot.
- Stand back and press accept to retrieve dropped loot without aggroing enemies.
Use fences to your advantage—jumping over them can stop enemies from chasing you due to limited AI pathing.
The Returner and Fast Travel
- Found in your inventory, the Returner item lets you teleport to your last remembered location.
- Initially, it takes you back to the starting portal in Dusty Forest—a dangerous place for beginners.
- Stay around Goldenfield Town for more manageable combat and progression.
Resource Gathering and Economy Tips
- Western Pumpkin Fields: Trample pumpkins for ingredients like pumpkin seeds.
- Resource types like transparent leaves and ores can be found near the zone’s borders.
- Wheat grows in more orange-toned areas; corn in greener fields.
Merchants pay poorly for gathered items, but killing basic mobs like birds or rats is much more profitable.
Shopping and Food Buffs
- From Ivy Clarkson, purchase ingredients like cabbage, carrots, blueberries, onions, and more.
- Store-bought ingredients can be cheaper than gathering and crafting manually.
Use your resources to cook meals like:
- Crunchy Chicken: +3.3 HP regen for 20 seconds.
- Egg Salad: Early game all-around recovery option.
Final Thoughts: Make the Most of the Alpha
While the current build limits you to one region and slows progression deliberately, there’s still plenty to explore. Focus on:
- Efficient questing and combining objectives.
- Smart resource and food usage.
- Mastering camera and movement controls.
- Experimenting with combat and gear upgrades.
The Early Access experience is about getting familiar with systems and offering feedback. So take your time, explore thoroughly, and enjoy discovering what Corepunk has in store.
More content and zones are on the horizon. Until then, explore the starter region to its fullest and stay tuned for updates as the game continues development.
